Re: Toshiba 55" rear projection

Hi, convergence circuit has failed, the IC`s will have to be changed, possibly a couple of precision support resistors as well and the set will then need to be re-converged, More questions? feel free to ask away, Happy Holidays, BMW Rider

My tv screen when on turns yellow then after a while it will switch back to normal colors what can be wrong with it....

Televisions covered: all Projection with yellow picture, but not Projection TVs with a yellowish tint surrounding objects in a nearly normal picture.

Yellow = red + green
normal picture = red + blue + green (RGB). See illustration.

Fig. 1 Additive color mixing in an RGB monitor, or RGB Projection TV.

The circuitry powering your blue output, or the blue light engine itself is starting to fail.

Operating Theory:

The lamp module shines a bright light into the optical unit; there are a series of lens and baffles, and at the top of the light engine, a lens puts the picture into a mirror which is reflected onto the screen; All video and color is processed thru the light engine. Blue most commonly fails first, leaving a yellow picture.

It won't turn on. The red light blinks and a click in the rear but the light does not stay on and no picture. If you keep trying the start button often (50) sometimes it will start. Once on, it will shut...

STK392-110 IC's. This problem is mentioned all over the place here.

Quick test: Remove the back cover. At the center of the closest side of the circuit board are 3 identical plugs. The circuit board will be labeled "Red, Green, Blue" and the plugs will have some matching indicator. Mine are colored-marker stripes.

Unplug all three. Turn on the set. If it continues to run but the picture is a mess -- it's the ICs. Use STK392-110T or STK392-118.

Replacing these takes a fair amount of skill with a soldering iron and familiarity with TV service. Or a death wish.

TV picture is red.

Normal color picture is composed with 3 colors R-G-B (Red-Green-Blue). Picture turns Red means: Missing Green and Blue colors (many reasons: bad contacts, projector tubes dead, and other...). Try to give some "tabs" to diagnose ... I don't know what is the type of your Projection TV, how long you owned it, to have more idea.

You might have burned out the red color crt. In projection TV's there are 3 CRT's (one for blue one for red, and one for green). If you have the other 2 colors but no red I would assume this is your problem. You should be able to get it fixed for around $150.

Bad picture

Try to consider the following tips:

Smearing out of one or several colors, best seen in txt-mode, my 27CE4599/30R smeared out in red and green, not in blue, fully exchanging the drivers (input and output complete, otherwise the RGB driver will blank the crt) moved the fault to the other color
Replace the 180K feedback resistors in the amplifiers with normal 1/4W metal film instead of 1/8W, they can become open circuited (in mine both green and red were faulty in this way). Change all 3 and not just the defective ones, replace also all the paralleled 75K resistors per color (fe by 47K+27K) to prevent bright color raster (they can also become open circuit)

Green Picture.

i suggest to have it check by a qualified service technician. there seems to be a problem with your crt (cathode ray tube). because inside this projection tv are 3 crt guns responsible for color red, green and blue, which only qualified technician can adjust it and replace if it is necessary.
