This can happen when the driver gets corrupted so Windows only sees a generic CD-ROM drive.

This can be complex to resolve and may need a tech. Have you tried removing the drive from Windows Device Manager and rebooting?

Also could be a defective drive but normally it is not.

How can i install vista in my lenovo g550.i have installed xp priviously, but,now want to install vista in it.i have the copy of vista home premium os cd. please help me.

1. Backup all your files. Windows XP has a "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" under System Tools under Accessories under All Program. Use it to create one (large) file -- copy that file to a DVD-recordable disk or to a USB memory-stick or to an external disk-drive.
2. Verify that you can read that file -- writing a "bad" copy would be horrific.
3. Access the LENOVO web-site -- looking for device-drivers for your model of Lenovo,
that will not be contained on the Vista CD. Download them, and save them to a CD-recordable disk (not a USB disk -- you may need these device-drivers, in order to enable the USB ports after installing Vista).
4. Insert the Vista CD. It should "autorun" something, asking your permission to start the installation of Vista.
5. Follow the on-screen prompts.
6. After the install completes, use "Windows Update" several times, to get all the security-fixes that have been issued since the release of your Vista CD.

When I click on a picture folder, the "Picture Tasks List" on the left side does NOT include the "Copy to CD" option like out other XP computer. Why is that?

. Follow the directions below to correct this issue
1) Check to see if the CD-RW or DVD-RW is functioning properly.
  • Right-click on My Computer
  • Click on Properties
  • Click on Hardware
  • Click on Device Manager
  • Click the plus (+) next to CD/DVD Drives and make sure the drive is functioning properly. If it has a yellow checkmark next to the drive, this is the cause of the problem. You'll need to right click on the drive, click on Properties and check the device status under the General tab to see why the drive is having difficulty. If you are receiving a Code 39 error for your CD or DVD drive, visit this page to solve it.
2) If the drive is functioning properly, examine these other options
  • Open My Computer
  • Right click on the CD-RW or DVD-RW drive and click on Properties
  • Click on the Recording tab
  • In the Desktop CD Recording section, make sure the "Enable CD recording on this drive" is checked, if it isnt check the box. This is the problem.

How too down load picture from computer too cd?

ok ...practically you have to burn into a cd some pictures that ya have stored into your computer ....if we are talking about a cd and not a dvd...its easy...you do not need aditional program to do that cause windows xp already have a program built in that allow ya to make a cd...
so ...insert a blank cd into the disk drive ...first ...than locate the pictures you want to put on the cd ...and copy them into the disk drive folder...they will look like they are blured ..cause in this moment they are temporary files there ....in the left side you have some tasks ....one of them says : write this files on cd ....click on it ...and the wizard for writing files on cd will start ...choose a name for the cd ...or leave it with the date ...and click next ....the wizard will do the job ...
the only thing you have to keep in mind is that a cd has only 700 M space on ...and you do not have to load more than that .
the easy way is to make a folder first and put all the files on it ...and then add teh folder to the drive folder, in this way you will have better control on the amount of files you add....
second, ....if you want to burn a DVD disk ...you will have to install a program to do that ..such as NERO ....or any other program that assist on burning ...

I don't know how to back up my files onto a cd. Can anybody help.

Hi,
With Windows XP and a CD-recordable (CD–R) or CD–rewriteable (CD-RW) drive, you can copy data to a CD as easily as you used to copy to a floppy disk.
To copy files and folders to a CD
1.
Insert a blank, writable CD into the CD recorder.
2.
Open My Computer.
3.
Click the files or folders you want to copy to the CD. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key while you click the files you want. Then, under File and Folder Tasks, click Copy this file,Copy this folder, or Copy the selected items.
If the files are located in My Pictures, under Picture Tasks, click Copy to CD or Copy all items to CD, and then skip to step 5.
4.
In the Copy Items dialog box, click the CD recording drive, and then click Copy.
5.
In My Computer, double–click the CD recording drive. Windows displays a temporary area where the files are held before they are copied to the CD. Verify that the files and folders that you intend to copy to the CD appear under Files Ready to be Written to the CD.
6.
Under CD Writing Tasks, click Write these files to CD. Windows displays the CD Writing Wizard. Follow the instructions in the wizard.
Notes:
• Do not copy more files to the CD than it will hold. Standard CDs hold up to 650 megabytes (MB). High–capacity CDs hold up to 850 MB.
• Be sure that you have enough disk space on your hard disk to store the temporary files that are created during the CD writing process. For a standard CD, Windows reserves up to 700 MB of the available free space. For a high–capacity CD, Windows reserves up to 1 gigabyte (GB) of the available free space.
• After you copy files or folders to the CD, it is useful to view the CD to confirm that the files are copied. For more information, click Related Topics.
