You do not have to disassemble the vacuum to get to the post motor filter. The above person does not know the DC17 if they are telling you this.
You simply remove one Phillips head screw, it is Phillips because most consumers won't have a T-15 driver at home. Remove that screw, the cover pops off and you take out the filter and replace it.
Easy peasy

Agree with the last two posters. Once you know the post filter exists and you find the hidden screw on the bottom of the vacuum the job is easy. Dyson vacuums work great but are overpriced and the filters are too. They give very poor instructions on maintaining their vacuums and if you don't have Internet getting parts at a reasonable price is next to impossible.

You must disassemble the vacuum to get to it. This is an incredible pain which is why vacuum technicians who service Dysons charge upwards of $40 to change these filters. I would not recommend trying to get to it yourself but if you are handy, take apart the lower housing and you will find it behind the fan motor leading into the cannister housing.

I turn on the vacuum and it does nothing but when i put the brushes down is turns on and the brush motor runs.....but the suction motor won't do anything.......help!

You have power so it can't be the switch or power cord. It is most likely the motor or the cord from the switch to the motor that is the problem. Start by checking these areas first.

My Dyson dc 17 gets hair clogged in the entry port to the canister from the main vaccum. Does this model have a filter that might need to be replaced? How can I fix this problem?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. To remove any debris from the cyclone inlet, or from the shroud, you can separate the clear bin and cyclone pack using the silver catch on the rear of the clear bin. You can then use a soft brush to remove any debris from the shroud.

Your DC17's pre-motor filter requires washing at least once every 3-6 months. The correct way to locate, remove, wash and replace this is demonstrated in the video linked below. Use cold water without any detergents, and always make sure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 24 hours.

How many filters does a dc08 have?

2 the motor filter which is washable and the lifetime hepa filter that you bnever have to change.
Here are a few links to Dyson for you. if you remove the bin and cyclone top assembly (as if you were going to empty it) you should see on the body of the machine a small tab on the top of the body in between the 2 wheels. Simply lift this tab and you should find the filter. It will be a two part filter with a blue sponge and yellow casing.

For full details visit www.dyson.co.uk/support. Select Using your Dyson, or How to wash my filter from the home page, pick your Dyson vacuum cleaner and you will be able to view a step by step guide on how to find the filter and how to wash it.

There is also a post filter which is locate underneath a disc which is under the clear bin, however this filter should never need to be replaced as it should last the lifetime of the machine and it does not need to be cleaned.

I hope that this information is useful to you. If it is a vote with the thumbs up is greatly appreciated.

How many filters does a dyson dc07 have

Hi there, the DC07 has 2 filters. A pre motor washable filter and a post motor filter which will be either a simple pad (like thick cloth) or a Hepa filter (about and inch thick with a plastic housing). The post motor filter should not be washed but the pre motor filter can. As a technician I would recommend replacing every couple of years for best running of your vacuum. The post motor filter is under the clear bin, you can lever the cover off with a small flat blade screwdriver. The washable filter is to the right of the post motor filter inside a removable housing.

Changing the HEPA filter on a DC17 Animal

Just took my Dyson in and yes my HEPA needed changing. It's under the right wheel (as you're looking at the machine); you can see it through the "vents" above the wheel. The screw is on the bottom of machine.

You will probably need a Torx (star) 15 screwdriver -- that's what Dyson seems to use everywhere.

Dyson collecting debris/hair, ect on top of hepa filter?

Called Dyson today about the cyclone canister clogging in my DC17 Animal. Turns out it's a problem with the black rubber gasket in the bottom of the canister. This also causes the HEPA filter to get lots of dirt and debris on top of it. They are sending me a new Cyclone canister with the corrected gasket. This will prevent anything but small particles of dust from entering the top of the cyclone and the HEPA filter should no longer collect all that stuff. Hope so!
