Can not get incoming fax, can fax out, can make a phone call on. The sender gets an error message "communication error"

You probably have a bad LIU (line input unit) which is mounted on the main board.
There are 2 varieties of this part 1) JC92-01155A or 2) JC92-01192A, so you will need to match the number on your existing board.

We are getting a lot of COM. E-31 errors on

plug out your fax and plug in a regular phone in to the line and dial your cell... if you can talk for 2 minutes with no distortion or noise on the line then all is well... if you cann't get through you have a problem...

connect your fax and call multiple fax machines... if you have the same error with multiple fax machines then your fax or your phone line is the problem...

change the fax cable... if you are getting the same error.... call your cell from the fax... if you can get the voice mail... your fax is ok... and the phone line is ok... the guy on the other end has a problem...

if the guy on the other end always has a problem and you can dial out and get your cell... connect another fax that you know works and try all these tests...

if it has the same problem then its your fax line call call the phone company

older fax machines used a 9600bps baud rate, meaning a transfer rate of 9600 bits per second. a Bit being an 7th/8th of a byte. The newer machines can transfer at 14400bps, which older machines can not read, as its too fast. thats why they asking the BAUD rate.

True. ALL fax machines are analog devices. Internet phone lines are DIGITAL.

There is no way to make it fax reliably.

344 Error can be caused by a few things. One of the following is occurring:
The sending fax has failed to respond to a fax command from the receiving fax due to poor line quality or fax interruption.

The sender has pressed cancel button while the reception was in progess.

In rare conditions, incompatibility has been encountered by two faxes and causes the sending fax to abandon the fax call.

Fax session was using ECM. Check your fax settings under the fax set-up menu on the printer. Disable the ECM (Error Correction Mode).

Fax at a different time to see if line quality improves.

Try relocating the fax to a differnt phone plug.

Replace the phone cord attached to the fax/printer.

Can't receive FAXes

If this is a new fax machine just setup, make sure that the telephone wire from the wall jack in plugged into the rear of the printer in the port named "Line". Not "EXT".

Intermittent problem of faxes not being rec'd from various areas

After a detailed discussion on chat, we got disconnected before accepting payment. This is not a problem with your fax, as it seems to be receiving most calls fine. I suggest printing out a report - Menu/Set, 2, 0, 2 - of caller ID history and having the phone company look into it further. Either there is a problem with your phone line, or someone is prank calling your fax from outside of your caller ID service area. Both are problems for the phone company to fix.
