Does your drive require cd-r - or cd-r +. Sometimes older ones are specific to the + / - type. Also there's some awesome websites such as newegg.com that sell dvd rw/cd-rw drives for as low as 20$ shipped for top of the line brands too. all the newer drives accept both types usually and dual layer disks.

See if changing recording speed would help. As far as I know the discs should work. Try the discs that you have burned before on another player just to check if there is something wrong with the player.

Wrong disc

Some audio cd's work better than others. I have experienced some problems with the Maxell brand so I switched brands. It can be quirky. Sometimes you get a bad lot of discs. I have had no problems since that bad lot of discs.

Can't record

hi all, spanky new, ok here my problem!! i got the panasonicdmr-e55 for xmas, 3 or 4 years ago. since then and even wheni started to use it the disc i recorded on were -R phillips 4x. since then i have tried every available manufacture of 4x's u could think of and yet to this day it will only record on a phillips 4x disc. its been in the shop a few times for cleaning and upgrades and yet they haven't beable to tell why it only accepts PHILLIPS BRAND 4X. the new upgrade i recieved fromthe manufacture was supposed allow higher in x's on disc. it accepted 16x phillips only ONE TIME AND REJECTED 50 OF THEM, SINCE THEN ABSOLUTELY NO MORE 16X OF ANY KIND. ANYONE GOT A SOLUTION????? ps even tried 8x its still a no go. i can't afford anything since i'm on social security. message: UNREADABLE DISC. SUGGEST REPLACED DISC. OK SO THIS MORNING I TRIED TDK, MEMOREX, H.P. CIRCUIT CITY, AND 6 OTHER BRANDS ALL 4X NEGATIVE R, STILL A NO GO HELP, THANKS GINA

Recording

Both previous suggestions are wrong. Your machine displays 'wrong disc' as you are trying to use a computer grade CDR, this machine needs a 'consumer audio' grade cdr that are more expensive. Google the manual, it explains further.
