Question about Intel D865GBF Motherboard
I have 2 systems at home with the same D865GBF motherboard. I was troubleshooting one of them with a single monitor. I took out the graphics cable from one CPU and plugged it into the other one (while both systems and the monitor were were switched on). I did this for a couple of times no problem, but then later on while I plugged it onto my main system, everything switched off and restarted to nothing (fans keep running, HDD has power, etc but nothing on my monitor). I also noticed a faint burning smell coming from the CPU.
I'm using 512MB DDR RAM, a 40 GB HDD, 2 DVD roms. I also have an external graphics card which I used in that motherboard and tried to boot it up. No luck. I even reset the boot settings.
I'm not a n00b and I know I screwed up. Any suggestions?
Monitor is working with my other system, no problems with the cables.
I think something wrong with the motherboard (faint burning smell) because I was trying to plug a live monitor into a live CPU? The resulting short or spark or something might have screwed up my motherboard. Is this a software issue?
I just wanted to know if I might have blown up the onboard graphical component because of me putting in the graphics cable into a CPU while it was running.

If the monitor is not working on both systems you could possibly have blown the monitor. Its unlikely that youv'e blow the two graphics cards. could you get a loan of another monitor and check to see if it works on the systems.
