Could I buy an usb to esata adapter, then an esata cable? That way I could plug my usb cable (that came with my hard drive),into the adapter and then the esata cable into the other end of the adapter, then plug the esata cable into the DVR??? I'm trying to connect my hard drive to my DVR to record movies to.

I don't think there is a converter from USB to ESATA, but you could buy a new Hard Drive enclosure that has those options, but I am not sure if you are willing to take out the HD from the existing one.

I need the instructions for Thermaltake BlacX ST0005U

The manufacturer page for this item is here: http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00002058
Their support page does not provide a manual, instructions or drivers.
I suspect that is because none are needed. This is essentially an external hard drive enclosure for SATA drives which are standard. Connected via eSATA or USB.

How do i fix an external hard drive (seagate freeagent) that makes a beeping sound and is not recognized by my system ?

Look inside your P.C. 1st to check SATA data connection type.
eSATA is a different connection from SATA so you might need an eSATA data lead if you follow the guide in the link, not sure if it just external connections only and plain SATA connection inside.
Google image 'eSATA' data lead/cable and you will see the difference between the eSATA and SATA connection if you don't already know.
My neighbour has the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB (Externel HardDrive), and in under 2 weeks it started to beep and was not reconized by any Laptop or P.C. if this is the same for you with any FreeAgent Desk series ( not GO series, different procedure for GO products). You maybe in luck click this link, you may have to register in the forums to view thread.... http://www.yo-lid.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=84 Thread can be found in 'Technical' under 'General Technical Issues' Dont worry if your a novice like me with computers, the guide is quite easy to follow...

Cannot detect external sata hard disk

I would start by swopping the Internal Sata Cables around and check if that solved it.

If not then there's probably a problem with either the E Sata HDD Controller board or Even the HDD or the Sata cable going from the Motherboard to your input E Sata Port. It's a matter of elimination.

So Remove the HDD from the Enclosure and plug it directly into the Motherboard and see if thats picked up.If it is then the HDD is fine.If not, get it replaced and it might still be under warranty.Check with the manufacturer.Continue reading if the HDD is fine.

Then use the Sata Cable from another HDD and connect it straight to to the E Sata Enclosure and see if the Operating System picks it up,Make sure the HDD you removed is plugged back into the enclosure. If that doesn't work then the problem lies with the Enclosure itself and you should get it replaced.

If it does the the problem lies with the cable itself and you should replce that.

Hope this helps you out.

Nope...

The eSATA ports are not configured in the device's firmware, and the USB 2.0 ports are useless except for charging your iPod or powering a USB fan. If you could connect an external drive to the unit, it would be partitioned with data encryption that can only be accessed by the particular DVR that formatted the drive. You can however stream local channels to a video capture card via the firewire ports but cable channels and DVR recorded programs would be encrypted. You can thank the MPAA for the grief...

Hard drive interface

Hi nortocd

(01) It will work in your USB hard disk enclosure if the enclosure supports SATA. If the enclosure supports the older style (ATA/EIDE) interface, then you'll just need to get an enclosure that supports SATA for your new hard disk. I like the Nextar external HDD (hard disk drive) enclosures.

You can find many external HDD enclosures made by various manufacturers these days. They're available for 3.5" (laptop-sized) and 5.25" (desktop PC-sized) HDDs supporting ATA/EIDE, SATA and SCSI HDDs and even Optical drives (DVD, etc.) Newegg is a great online source for computer & high tech-related equipment. They're prices are very competitive and their customer service is excellent. You can also find customer reviews of most of the products they sell, too, which can be very helpful.

(02) If you'd like this HDD to be portable, then I recommend you use an external HDD enclosure. They are available w/ USB and w/ eSATA connections (for connecting externally to your computer(s)). I don't recommend using IEEE1394 (firewire) as USB 2.0 is faster. eSATA is faster than USB 2.0 but is not a commonly available external connection on most computers yet.

(03) If a SATA port (connection) is not available inside your computer, you can install a SATA controller (if an expansion card slot is available in your computer) and connect your new HDD to the new controller.

(04) You can find information regarding your Compaq Presario HERE.

(05) I checked your motherboard specifications HERE. Your computer's original equipment does not support SATA. However, if you'd still like the HDD to be installed internally, just install a SATA controller and connect the new HDD to the SATA controller.
