Have a kenmore canister vacuum cleaner which the power-mate parts don't work. I had loaned the vac out it came back with part of the hose smashed. I don't know if that is the problem.

The hose conducts power to the "power Mate"
There are wires running end to end through the hose and handle. If your hose is grey with hard plastic cuffs at both ends, it is repairable, but you will need to locate the Smashed parts.
If your hose is almond or gray with ribbing like miniature spider web between the corrugations and vinyl cuffs molded onto it , it is likely a non serviceable hose and needs to be replalced, Sears or a Panasonic vac warranty repair shop should be able to supply the parts.
Lesson learned, give the bill to whoever borrowed it

Owners manual for kenmore power-mate # 116

Greetings from GoVacuum,

I wasn't able to find the manual for the Kenmore model, however I did find the instruction manual for the corresponding Panasonic canister vacuum cleaner. Your particular Kenmore model is actually made by Panasonic for Sears, and then Sears puts the Kenmore name on the vacuum cleaner. They are identical internally, and have the same parts and components, besides the filter that is behind the bag. Sears makes Panasonic put a specially designed filter in the Kenmore's so that the customer has to go back and purchase that filter from Sears.

To download the instruction manual, please visit the link below;

You can also find a parts schematic of the power head below if you need to purchase parts;

Kenmore 25614/25615 Progressive bagged canister vac won't start

sounds like there was a loose connection or loose wire that came in contact with another wire. check your cord for small burn holes, also could have shorted out in the hose or the wand. If you are comfortable to disassemble the vacuum i can walk you through the troubleshooting process so we can find out what actually went bad. id start with the cord though. let me know if you have any questions or need more assistance

It sounds like you have a blockage somewhere and the air is not passing over the motor to keep it cool. There is usually a thermostat mounted either on or near the motor. The blockage can be anywhere from the elbow ( the swivel part of your carpet sweeper if you have a canister vac) up thru the hose.If you have a canister vac, use a broom handle to push through the hose to clear the blockage. DO NOT ! use a coat hanger or anything that will cut or tare the hose. There are electrical wires in it that have 120 volts and causes quite a shock !
.
If you have an upright vac, start with the duct hose that comes from the part with the brush up to the hose and on to the main canister of the vac
If this does not work, take your vac to a reputable vac shop for repair. Hope this helps,
Joe

Need to find specs to test hose and electrical connections

There are no hose specs. You have continuity or you don't. These are very problematic canisters as they age.
Kenmore canisters are very subject to dirt build up on internal contact rings where they swivel at the elbow adjoining the vac.
They are also prone to intermittent connections at the handle/wand junction and at the wand/power head connection.
Due to the weight of the head there is a lot of strain on those connections.
You never fix half the connection, always both, male and female components in pairs for best results.

I have a Kenmore Canister Vac. I need to replace

Try forcing a flathead screwdriver between the flange (tab) on the hose collar and the tab on the swivel assembly itself, taking care not to gouge the wires. Saw one solution where they used 2 screwdrivers simultaneously; couldn't do that, but did loosen one side at a time.

Model 116 hose clog?
Posted by rfrazelle on Jun 23, 2008
My old canister model 116 followed with numbers 2839580 marked Kenmore 3.9 with power-mate, worked fine until the bag got overly full. I have changed the bag, cleaned the filter, and removed a nasty hair/fur/dust clog :-p from the lower metal tube of the power mate. It now has very weak suction and won't pick up anything. I suspect a clog in the grey plastic flexible tubing attached to the canister but cannot get it apart. Advice?
RJ

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Kenmore 22313 Bagged Canister Vacuum. The best way to find a clog in an electric hose is to use a steel ball or a large marble to place inside the hose and to let it so threw as far as it can to determine where the hose clog is. Once you have determined where the hose clog is then you can use a small end of a broom handle of take an old wire coat hanger and place a hook on the end and try to pull the clog out of the electric hose – the electric hose is very expensive so try not to damage the hose in any way, shape or form. Or another way is that id you have another canister vacuum you can try to pull the clog apart by using two vacuums turned on and running. If you are successful then run the round marble or steel ball thru the hose again and the clog should be cleared.

Vacuum is not sucking. It is just over a year old.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
It sounds like you have a clogged hose or a full bag, or dirty filter. The best way to check your electric hose id to run a marble or steel ball thru the hose and if it goes thru all the way then check the bag and filter, most times it is the vacuum hose. If it id the hose you can try to pull apart the clog from both ends using another central or canister vacuum. If not and the ball stops mid way thru the hose then you can use a broom handle with a round hook on the end so that it does not puncture the hose is any place and the round hook can loosen or break up your clog and then your suction will return, if you poke a hole in the vacuum hose there are repair kits that go on the outside of the hose that will slide over the hose and then you use a heat gun and shrink the hose repair kit down to size therefore plugging the leak. (Hose repair kit). So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
