First of all, your freezer is freezing up DONT chip the ice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Either unplug the unit and allow it to thaw out naturally OR get a hair dryer or fan and let the ice thaw out. Then call us and we will be sure to get the right parts out to you to replace the defost system, which is out on your Sub Zero. We hope this does it for you and we also hope to hear back from you real soon. Ella

Accidentally left the freezer door open, and ice crystals formed.

You can defrost by turning off the power and leaving the door open, but if it is a frost free model it should gradually rid itself of ice at normal temp settings. This may take several days.

Frigidaire model FRT18B4AW forms ice on back panel of freezer, then refrig doesn't cool. Defrost timer seems to be rotating.

Thank you for your post, friend!

Please help me understand the question you are asking. Is the defrost timer not working? Is the fridge still not cooling? Or is the ice forming too often? With further information I look forward to assisting you. -Matt

I had a huge block of ice on the bottom of my freezer that I got rid of yesterday. Over night the ice started to form again. What could be wrong? The unit is only about 8 years old and we've already had...

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

check the door gasket to see if theres any tears or if its dirty, also check the coil on the back to see if theres any dirt on it if so it needs to be cleaned.

Neverending ice cystals buildup in freezer

Hi Rachel,

Opened 3-10 times per day, per week, per month?

There is only one possible source of these ice crystals -- moisture precipitating from the air (condensate) -- this air is coming from outside the freezer. It's either getting in when the freezer is opened or coming in around the gasket.

You might try a very thin coat of vaseline on the gasket to get a better seal.

My GSS22SGRE Side by Side freezer & Refrig temp is too warm

Possible the defrost thermostat is bad and need to be replaced. Not allowing the evaporator coil ice buildup to melt , which acts like an insulation and restricts the air flow in the freezer compartment.
