Just to make sure you have the correct links. Go here to download the updated software installation package for your printer: Copy the instructions on that page and save them to a notepad file or somewhere on your computer, where you can refer to them.
Then download the uninstaller from here. You must run this on your computer and reboot before installing the updated drivers. Here are instructions for the uninstall tool. AFter uninstalling the software, make sure the usb cable is unplugged, and cycle the power off and then on to the printer.
Then install the printer software by logging in as admin, extracting the zip file (double click on it), open the setup directory and double click on setup.exe.
This will run the updated installer to install the printer on your system.
When you are prompted to by the software, connect the usb cable.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

HOW DO I TURN OFF THE SLEEP MODE ON MY PRINTER BROTHER MFC 7420

Setting the Sleep Time reduces power consumption by turning off the fuser inside the MFC while it is idle. You can choose how long the MFC is idle (from 00 to 99 minutes) before it goes into sleep mode. The timer is automatically reset when the MFC receives a Fax or PC data or makes a copy. The factory setting is 05 minutes.
To turn Sleep Mode off press Menu/Set, 1, 6, 2. Then use the dial pad to enter the length of time the MFC is idle before it goes into sleep mode, in this case 00 so it wouldn't go to Sleep mode at all. Press Stop/Exit.

Curious - What is the moon shaped key all about

this button puts the computer into sleep mode.

FROM WIKIPEDIA-

Sleep mode can go by many different names, including Stand By (Microsoft Windows 95-Server 2003), Sleep (Mac OS 8)-(Mac OS X) / (Windows Vista,Windows Server 2008), and Suspend (Linux). When placed in this Sleep mode, aside from the RAM which is required to restore the machine's state, the computer attempts to cut power to all unneeded parts of the machine. Because of the large power savings, most laptops automatically enter this mode when the computer is running on batteries and the lid is closed.
Though Sleep and Hibernate are generally thought as two separate functions, modern Macintoshes, Windows Vista (termed Hybrid Sleep), and some specially configured Linux machines also feature a variation of Sleep mode that incorporates the strengths of Hibernate. The RAM is copied to the hard drive before sleep mode is initiated, preserving the RAM contents in the event of a power loss.
ACPI is the current standard for power management, superseding APM and providing the backbone for sleep and hibernation on modern computers. Sleep mode corresponds to ACPI mode S3. When a non-ACPI device is plugged in, Windows will sometimes disable stand-by functionality for the whole operating system. Without ACPI functionality, as seen on older hardware, sleep mode is usually restricted to turning off the monitor and spinning down the hard drive.

Can't get brother out of sleep after 99 minutes inorder to pring

Try plugging the mfc into another usb port on the computer. The ones in the back are closer to the processor, usually work better.

Printer doesnt come out of sleep mode (Brother MFC7420)

I'd be happy to give you the solution to this problem :)

You'll want to go into the menu and choose these options: 1,6, and 2. The final stop should give you the sleep menu.

The printer is setup for a default of 5 minutes. But you can change it from 00 to 99 minutes. To just shut it off, press the Options and Start button simultaneously and that will do the trick.

Here is the link to the manual: http://www.brother.ca/en/products/pdf/manuals/MFC7820N-UG.pdf

If I wasn't specific enough, the solution is on page 2-6
