There is 3 screws that will need to be taken off, then cover should lift off.

It won't start. The pull chord won't pull out. Even a little. It was out at one time, in the loop on the mower handle, but I had to let it go into the motor and now it won't come out.

You will probably have to disassemble the rewind assembly and either replace the rope and/or straighten out the cord and properly reconnect it to the flywheel connection. Kits usually are available at the Sears parts store or lawn and garden centers that handle lawn mowers everywhere.
Best wishes,

My Craftsman lawn mower starter cord doesn't retract after mower starts.

I have had this situation before on a lawnmower. I didn't have a craftsman, but is probably the same issue. Basically, the spring that recoils the cord back in either broke or came unwound. When the mower is not running, the cogs on the pull chord keeps the cord from coming out. When the mower is running, the spring is not wound enough to hold the chord in and thus releases or doesn't hold it in.
Try pulling the pull chord assembly off and rewind the spring.

Lawn mower pull cord

This works best with two people. Remove cover and pull cord will be inside cover. If your handle on pull cord is attatched to a metal ring up on the handle, you will need 8 foot of new pull cord.
With all the old cord removed, wind cord pulley 6 revolunations, now, have someone hold the pulley, while you string the new cord thru pulley and out the cord hole on cover. Be sure to put a knot on the end going thru pulley. Draw cord all the way thru and out of the cover. Attatch the handle and let it rewind. You will have extra cord, this will be used up going from engine up the handle. I hope this helps

When i pull the chord its realy hard and wont

Sounds to me that the engine brake is the problem. Pull the top cover and be sure the pull starter is free and if it is then look at the engine brake just below the cover to see if it is releacing.

When i try to start it just clicks

SOUNDS LIKE PROBLEM IS IN THE TOP COVER AND NOT ENGAGING FLYWHEEL WHEN PULLING CHORD. I THINK ITS A PLASTIC HOUSING THE ROPE IS IN. PROBABLY STRIPPED OUT TEETH. PULL TOP COVER OFF AND LOOK UNDERNEATH FOR DAMAGE. TAKE TO LOCAL SMALL ENGINE MOWER SHOP,NOT HOME DEPOT THIS IS A SPECIFIC PART. THEY CAN ORDER YOU ONE,NOT TOO EXPENSIVE. THEY SHOULD SHOW YOU HOW TO WIND SPRING UP AND REINSTALL ROPE. ALSO LOOK AT SPRING ACTIVATED CATCHES THAT LOCK TO TETH TO ENGAGE ROTATION,MAKE SURE THOSE ARE GOOD TO

I waz starting the awn mower and had resistince from the pull cored so i pulled and now the pull cored is dangolling and want trigger a start

Soundas like the rewind spring is broken. Remove the top housing and see if you can reset the spring by removing the cord, hook up the broken end, rewind the spring with a screw driver...lock it in the tension position and then reinstall the cord.
