The fan that pulls the hot air through the dryer and pushes the exhaust out through the vent hose is plugged with lint. You will want to remove the cover on the fan and manually clean the fan out. I had the same problem with my dryer, I was astounded by the amount of lint that was trapped in the fan.
Also look inside the cloths drum on the back wall and make certain the hole in that wall are not clogged with lint also. Use a flash light and make sure the hole are perfectly clean.
Good luck, clean it all out and let me know.

If a dryer is heating but takes to long to dry you can bet the dryer has a air flow problem. I would check the dryer vent first for restrictions due to lint build up or kinks. Remove the dryer vent and clean the lint out. Also check the outside flapper on the end of the dryer vent to make sure it's free of lint and able to open all the way.
It also a good idea to take the dryer apart and check around the blower/fan housing for lint build up.

make sure that all the seals are ok, door, front and back drum seal, blower housing seal(inside dryer). also consider that depending on washer type if you overload or have a worn drive belt in washer it will take twice the time to dry. also make sure that the dryer drum tumble. open door, press door switch and start dryer to see if drum turn. lastly disconnect vent pipe behind dryer and dry a load. if it dry ok then you have a partial blockage. you can also have a weak heating element.

Kenmore 600 dryer tumbling & heating, but not drying

Several reasonings. Step One make certain that you have 220 volts coming to your outlet. It takes 110 for the motor, and it takes 110 for the heating elements. If you have a volt meter that would be the best way to do that. Take the red and stick it in to the long part, and the black lead to the ground. Fuse houses was bad about this. Step Two it could be the elements are kicking off too soon. That is usually a sign of almost blown element. Step Three the heat sensor for the element prematurely kicking off the element.

My Maytag gas dryer is not heating correctly. It gets warm, but takes several cycles to dry even small loads.

If you have'nt done it yet, my first suggestion would be to have the vent on the dryer (inside the dryer all the way to the fan chamber) and the dryer vent pipe to the outside thoroughly cleaned.
That is leading cause for dryers not drying completely.
Also, has the dryer always been a bit slow to dry cloths? If so, try leaving a window open the next time and see if it makes a difference. Some houses are sealed so tight, the dryer can't get enough air. A typical dryer will use up to 200 cu/ft of air per minute when drying. If there is not sufficient air, the cloths take longer to dry.
Good luck, let me know.

Will not dry clothes fully. the machine heats fine but it takes two or more cycles to fully dry a little load. someone told me about a part that may need repaced around the lint trap.. Any ideas?

Your lint exhaust is blocking the heat flow.
Remove the vent from the rear of the dryer and run a timed cycle load for 40 minutes.
If laundry is dry, repair the outside vent.
If not dry, open the dryer cabinet and clean the inside lint and heat vent.
