Are you getting the LED on the Motherboard to light up? Typically that at least will let you know if the Motherboard is getting power, if not you may want to reseat the power connector to the motherboard, just unplug and plug it back in. If the LED is on you could still try to reseat but you may also want to clear the BIOS.

Could also be as simple as the power switch on the motherboard from the switch on the case is not connected and/or loose.

The power light wont turn off

Does the PC turn off at all or just not the light. If it's just the power light on the tower, Check the connections between the tower to the motherboard and make sure they didn't get moved when the power supply got replaced.

You may have a bad power supply. Did you turn it off, or did it go off by itself? Do you hear any beeps when you try to turn it on? Those may help you figure it out. If nothing happens you need more help, like a technician in person. This may be simply the power supply, or the motherboard may be done for.

I would re-seat the power connector from the power supply to the motherboard. If you are able to test the power supply output, that would be helpful as well. The problem as you describe it points towards the power supply failing.

Acer veriton m460 won't turn on fan runs that's it

Power supply failure. Replace it. Get 50+ more watts than the original. Power supplies are inexpensive and can be replaced without affecting your operating system or programs.
BTW: Many "failed" power supplies still can deliver enough power to spin fans and turn on the lights.
I recommend: www.newegg.com

hi

it could be that your power supply (from tower) is not working -- does the fan blow out air ?
if not replace the power supply. If the power supply is on but no video on screen showing , it could be your mainboard inside the tower, thats if no noise is coming from the tower.

what were the circumstances when you worked on he computer ? was it plugged in overnight while running or was the power cord attached to tower while plugged into wall ? if so, it mnay have experienced a power surge and blew the mainboard.. too much current going to tower could blow the power supply, causing the mainboard to have received excess current

No power to tower. Pressing power on button on front of tower fails. Is there some kind of reset or fuse to look for?

There is no easy fuse. Did the computer get turned off at the back? Some power supplies have a switch on the top of the tower. Did the power strip get turned off? Have you verified that the outlet has power?
If this is not the problem, it sounds like a blown power supply. Do you have any lights on the system? If not, take the tower to a local computer shop and they can very quickly diagnose a failed power supply.

Dell tower desktop Dimension 5100. Tower makes whistling sound.

sounds like it could be a bearing in your hard drive. is this problem constant? If so, I would open up the tower and disconnect the hard drive and then power up the tower again. if the sound goes away--you need to get a new hard drive. If not, you could have some dust bunnies in your cooling fan.

My tower will not turn on

It sounds as if your power supply is having issues, I would recommend replacing it.  If your good with computers, you can test the power supply: 1. Open the computer tower. 2. Find the main plug which runs from the power supply to the motherboard. 3. There should be 16 wires. 4. Find the green wire, short it to the black wire with a paper clip. 5. If the computer seems to turn on, its your motherboard having issues and you will probably need a new computer.  If it does not turn on, your power supply has failed, and you need to replace it.
I hope this helps!

Tower won't turn on

If it's the type of power supply that has a 4 prong cable that goes into your motherboard, and you remove that, and the fans turn on, I'm afraid it's the motherboard has a short in it. If they don't, double-check that your cable is tight in the back of the power supply, where it goes from the wall into the power supply. Sometimes they will be loose, and won't work completely, but will have only one or 2 power lines connectd, so there is your power light.
