Kitchenaid fridge #KSCS25INSS hot door frame

My Kitchenaid refrigerator model #KSCS25INSS is very hot on the door frame where the fridge and freezer come together. It's so hot that it melts the ice in the icemaker, so I turned the icemaker off. This seems to have happened spontaneously from one day to the next.

Thanks for the information. If it is the heater inside the door frame, is there anything I can do about it?

There are heaters located inside the door frame, to prevent your doors from freezing shut, and also to prevent condensation on the outside of the appliance. It sounds to me as though that is where your problem is... Hope this helps

  • Anonymous Sep 10, 2009

I was looking over the parts list for your refrigerator, and it does not list any door heaters, so I doubt they can be replaced.... I did notice that there is a thermistor located in the refrigerator (seen in the drawing of the refrigerator liner) It is possible that this thermistor is bad, and allowing the heater to overheat. I would check to see if maybe that is the problem before making any further decisions.

    btw the thermistor part #2188820

    Hope this helps

We moved our refrigerator and cleaned the coils and now the coils are extremely hot and so is the outside of the fridge on the freezer side and on the divider between the the fridge and freezer.

The can get pretty hot. However you should check to see if there is a moisture control switch on that unit. Change that to the other setting and see what that does.

Exterior of refrigerator between freezer and refrigerator is hot to the touch

It is normal unless there is a lot of dust below your refrigerator blocking airflow. What you feel is hot gas tubes behind the surface of the metal to help reduce moisture around the door frame and door seals that will get hotter should the fan and condenser below refrigerator have a blockage of dust blocking airflow, Sea Breeze.

Unable to sufficiently cool freezer as of couple days ago; temp higher than freezing point. The metal frame running between fridge and freezer is burning HOT to the touch; so hot that the rubber door...

check the coil to see if it needs to be cleaned and pull out the machine,if it's getting that hot the condenser fan motor could be dead.pull it out and remove the bottom panel in the back and make sure the fan is blowing and clean the condenser coil.the fan motr part number is W10124096 and it's around 85 to 90 dollars.if the fan isn't running you can stick any fan back there to cool down the compressor and get the fan motor as soon as possible,i've found mice stuck in the fan going for water in the pan or papers,if something is jammed in the blade hopefully when you pull it out it will still run but i think this is your problem, good luck.one more thing the model number you sent isn't the full number, you're missing a number on the end the model i looked up ended in 1 but the fan should be the same, you can open the fridge door, look up near the ceiling on the right hand wall and you should see the model number,if it's not there, look down near the bottom hindge on the fridge door, you might have to remove the bottom kickplate to see it,give the number to your parts store and they will sell you the correct part.

Freezer door frame is extremely hot

The frame should be warm but not excessively hot. This is called an anti sweat heater. It's purpose is simply to keep the door from sweating under normal operation. It sounds as though this heater is going out. You may want to have it replaced very soon. Once it completely fails the freezer door will start to sweat and cause water to pool on your floor. Hope this helps, good luck!

My freezer temp registers 28 - 36, I cleaned out coils, I notice that there is a fan in the back bottom right side, not sure what should make that run. My Ice is slowly melting. I had the freezer setting...

That fan behind the refrig , is the fan that cools the compressor . It should be running any time the compressor runs . If not running , replace it . The center divider between the fridge and freezer ( front strip ) should be getting hot to the touch if the fan is not running .

Fridge door is lower then freezer door

The #1 cause for this problem: The floor beneath the fridge is uneven, causing the refrigerator "box" to be out of square. Adjust the levelers on the fridge bottom to compensate for the uneven floor. That should do it.
