Hotpoint oven won't heat above 250 degrees broiler works fine as well as the stove top

either its the oven sensor rod located at the top of the ovens cavity,or your bake element could be getting a hot spot which is when it gets a discolored spot in the element and can no longer pass sufficient current to heat the oven past 250 degrees

Our GE profile oven model JGsp31wet1ww oven will not heat up. When i set the oven to say 400 degrees, it just stays at 100 and never heats up. The broiler seems to work fine and the stove top gas burners...

pull out the racks and remove the bottom floor of the oven, turn it on bake,if the ignitor doesn't glow most likely it's bad,if it does glow and it doesn't ignite within 40 to 60 seconds the ignitor is bad.even though it glows doesn't mean it's good,it works by amps.it takes 3.2 amps.for a flat ignitor to open the gas valve and 2.5 amps for a round ignitor to open the gas valve.

No Bake; everything else works

Hi, When you put the oven on bake, can you see the ignitor glowing but get no flame?
Sound like the ignitor might be getting weak and not opening the gas valve. Please let me know if this sounds like the problem.
It is common for the ignitor to go bad. Even if it glows, it can be bad.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi threeamigoma,
ngafm at your service,

Your stove top and broiler works well. But the temperature won't go past 100. There is a little sign below the 100 saying ON. First time I have ever seen this.

More than likely the thermostat is faulty. But you can not tell exactly with out hands on diagnoses.
Since I am unable to be there, you will more than likely need to call a tech to service this.
There are a few things that need to b tested to narrow down the precise parts needed.

Bless You ngafm.

Thank You

Most likely the oven ignitor is bad or weak.  You can look at it and see how it compares to the broil ignitor.  If you see a whitish color on the ignitor and if it doesn't fully glow then it needs to be replaced.

Oven won't heat

This could be the ignitor. The ignitor is located under the bottom of your oven. you get to it from the inside of the oven. A quick check though is to set the oven to bake and wait about 30 seconds and see if you can see a faint orange glow from the bottom inside of the oven. If you do then your ignitor is probably working ok and the problem lies somewhere else.
