This is not a light engine problem as stated above. It is an expensive repair. $650 to $1000 for the part depending on the model of your TV plus $300 for labor. The problem with blue haze is well known on all Sony LCD TV's made after 2003. The part that is defective is called the "Optical Block". I have the same problem on my TV that started yesterday. Here's the link to repair it yourself. Best advice, junk the TV and buy another. Not worth doing a $1200 repair on a unit that costs the same as a brand new one these days.

Hope this helps. Remember, this repair is time consuming and complex. Good Luck.

Permanent blue haze on screen; looks like

The fact that you continue to have sound while the picture disappears points to one of three potential issues.

Issue 1: the LCD Panel.

Issue 2: The Inverter Power Boards (though these tend to cause power/shutdown/no video at startup than video distortion)

Issue 3: the Time Control Board - a small board at the top of the LCD panel on the back that relays data to the rest of the screen.

Any one of these three repairs, you should call Sony if the unit is outside of manufacturer's warranty. They are expensive to perform, and the parts are not cheap. Hopefully you have an extended warranty to help with the issue.

Near the bottom edge of the screen on my Wega KF-50WE 610 has appeared a ''blue haze'' that appears after the TV has warmed up. It started a few days ago as ''fuzzy blue dots'' about the size of silver...

This was caused by a defect in the optical block of the TV. It will only get worse with time and the only way to fix it is to replace the whole optical block which is very expensive (over $1000 usually) and time consuming (you need to take the whole TV apart). However, since it was a defect, there was a class action lawsuit that caused Sony to extended the warranties for certain models on the optical block for parts and labor. Call Sony to see if your model was one of the ones they extended the warranty for.

Blue Haze on screen Sony cineza vpl-hs50 projector

Its your blue polarizer going bad. This happens over time due to the excessive heat generated in the projector. The main problem is that your projector has organic LCD panels that degrade over time and in turn degrades your blue polarizer. The same thing happened to my sanyo Z2. It took 5 years for it to show on my Sanyo because I only use the projector for sports and movies. not daily tv watching. In any case, it isnt worth it to spend the money ti fix it...jut put tat towrds a new projector. The latest crop of LCD projectors almost all use in-organic LCD panels that last much longer. Hope this helps.

Blue haze from lower left slowly starting to consume the screen

The blue LCD panel in the light engine is going bad. The only fix is to replace the light engine. This is an extremely expensive repair. However, Sony has extended the warranty on the light engine only on many of these models. Find a local Sony authorized service center and give them your model and serial number to see if yours qualifies for the warranty.

You have a problem within the light engine. This a hugely expensive. If the set is not too old you could contact Sony and see if they will help you out. Otherwise it is not eceonomical to repair
