If this is your first time using your printer in your computer, then, you need to install the driver enable for it to communicate with your computer. Look for the dvd that came with your printer when it was delivered to you. Insert the disc and let it run. Follow the on-screen instructions.
If you already installed that printer before in that computer but just stopped working, then, you probably have some problems with its communication. The communication between the printer and the computer has been interrupted. I can't tell what made stop working but I can tell you how to make it work fine again.
Here's what you need to do:
Un-install the printer's driver by going to the Control Panel/Remove or Uinstall Programs/Lexmark.... After you uninstall the printer's driver, insert the dvd (printer's driver) in the tray. Let it run. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Go to Printers and Faxes and delete your printer icon Disconnect your printer's cable (connected to your PC) Restart your PC Reconnect the printer's cable Your PC should see the printer and install the printer's driver software.
You must install the scanner software that came on your installation disc. If you do not have it you can download it from Lexmark itself. Without the software installed the computer has no idea that your printer has scanning capability.Once you are done you should be pleased, I have always gotten good scans from my Lexmark products.
Log onto the Internet - go to the Lexmark web site, click on "Support" - "Downloads" (or whatever it's called) - then fill in the data for the type of device, the model (ie: Lexmark 3650 printer (or whatever it is) and the operating system you're using (ie: Windows XP-Pro 32 bit). Then download the software to your computer and install it.
NOTE: Printer must be "TURNED ON" when you connect the usb cable, or the software will not find it. If the printer is not plugged in and turned on, the system won't know it's there.
go to this page, select your operating system (Win XP or Vista) download and install. Reminder: Do not connect your printer to the computer until you are instructed to do so. this should do it, please leave rating, thank you
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
