Question about Electric Saws

1 Answer

I bought a saw at a rummage sale. It's a Craftsman 7 1/4 10 amp , 2 1/4 hp model. I am trying to cut through the floor of my bathroom at a depth of 1 1/2 ". The saw seems to bog down as I cut and it smells like it is getting hot. In fact, at one point it blew a fuse. The tips of the blade seems sharp and the kerf is still present. Can it be just the blade or did I get screwed by the seller?

Blade wont cut all the way down when cutting baseboard

the maximum cutting depth of a circular saw is the distance from the teeth to the drive washer hub of the saw blade
so on a 7 1/2 saw the effective cut would be less than 3"
if your base board is thicker than that get a bigger saw
it the board is a lot less adjust the cut depth adjustment for the saw base

I bent the depth of cut scale on a Craftsman 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw. How to true it so I can again set correct depths?

With the saw unplugged, lay it upside down on a bench or table. Put a small scrap of 2x4 against the blade and adjust until the depth of the blade matches the thickness of the 2x4. Lock it in place, Then bend or adjust the depth scale so that it reads 1-1/2 inches. Good luck.

My Craftsman 7&1/4 inch 12 amp Circular Saw(Model 315.108330) slips while cutting. The motor keeps spinning but the saw stops rotating. Can I Fix it?

Most circular 7-1/4 saws have a bolt and a compression washer that acts as a brake shoe that holds the blade secure but under dire circumstances will allow the blade to slip some rather than hold the motor shaft and allow burn out. The compression washer under your bolt has become worn and doesn't grip the blade securely. You can find a split washer that will fit under the blade and give you some more friction, or go to sears and order another compression washer for your saw.In the Sears Parts List found at: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Craftsman-Parts/Saw-Parts/Model-32018780/0247/0744410/50035950/00001?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

Aren't there two handcrank wheels on the sides of the saw? One is for blade angle of cut, the other is for depth of cut.

Replacement blade

Use a 10" blade. As for the number of teeth...the more teeth the finer the cut will be. The only drawback is a a finer toothed blade will cut slow. For your purposes I'd suggest a fine toothed blade.

Craftsman Garage Opener (Unit run front & back only for 2 second)

Double check to make sure the sensors are wired correctly. The 2 solid white wires go to terminal 2 and the wires with black stripes go to terminal 3. If the wiring is correct then you possibly have a bad RPM sensor. The RPM sensor is a small circuit board just in front of the motor.

Depth/Length Problem

A longer stroke depth (e.g., 1-1/4") is best for faster, more aggressive cuts, while a shorter stroke length (e.g., 3/4") is needed for plunge cuts
