My 12 year old 50inch Hitachi will not come on.

My 12 year old 50inch Hitachi will not come on. At first, the TV went off on it's own. After sitting a couple minutes unplugged from the wall outlet and then plugging back into the outlet the TV came on and worked for a couple months. Then same thing happened but never came back on. When the power button is pressed, the red indicator light will come on for a second and then go out.
