Question about Maxtor Atlas 10K III 73.4 GB SCSI Ultra320 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Maxtor SCSI 36GB hard disk drive was removed from

Maxtor SCSI 36GB hard disk drive (Maxtor Atlas 10k III 36GB SCSI Ultra320). It was removed from a server (hot swap) during format. Now the server doesn't recognizes the HDD. I swapped slots but it didn't help. The server is a Dell PowerEdge 2600. Is there a way I can re-use this HDD and if not what happened to it?
Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

If you are using raid go into the perc hardware utlity as it boots, try formating the drive there.maybe this will work.If you are using the dell open manage software you can probably format it there in windows. If you are not using raid enter the scsi utlity and do a format there.
Good luck

XP can't recognize SCSI Ultra320 hard Drive

First, determine if your "motherboard" will support a SCSI hard drive interface. The type of SCSI drives that are available are Wide Ultra SCSI (40MB/sec), Wide Ultra 2 SCSI (80MB/sec), Ultra 160 SCSI (160MB/sec) and Ultra 320 SCSI (320MB/sec). Today's standard for SCSI drives is the SCA SCSI which has an 80 pin female cable to drive information from the drive to the system board.

Set the jumpers. The drive should have jumpers on it that were set by the manufacturer. Setting the jumpers allows the drive to be recognized by your computer's hardware. If the jumpers have not been set, you will need to set the jumper of the primary drive to "Master," and if you are installing a secondary drive, the jumpers would be set to "Slave." The master drive is the drive that the computer boots to first when it starts up. The jumpers are pins located on the block or end of the hard drive.Resetting the BIOS default should make the system recognize the drive. Or Press F6 to install third-party SCSI drivers.

The disk won't come active or ready?

first take another device such as a another hard disk and connect the same port where you connect this hard drive If that too not active replace the hard drive connecting cable if still problem check your smbs if the power supply is ok. If its work on that port . relace this fujitsu as an secondary hard drive then now check whether this is working .

regards thanks

the hard disk interface could be broken, open the hard disk case and use it as an internal hard disk as a slave in a computer to save your data

Maxtor one touch iii unable to read drive; the external hard drive previously worked and now it doesn't read the drive

please remove the raw drive from the casing
it may be a sata drive of maxtor please power it up directly to your pc with a sata power and sata cable
the drive will get recognised .
if it gets recognised it means the interphase between the disk and the ext casing has been damaged

if you fail , the disk has lost its firm ware or rom chip rom bin file.
both can be flashed and recover the drive
BEcaerful you can break the plastic casing while removing the raw drive as it had been machine dyed and fixed and you may not find any screw s outside

If the following determines you have hard drive failure then you may have to purchase a new HD. Follow what is recommended from the manufacturer below. READ EVERYTHING.

According to Seagate the makers of Maxtor, you have a DiamondMax 10 (6L080M0). See below or click here

My internal hard drive may be defective, how can I test it?

Question

My internal hard disk drive may be defective, how can I test it?

How can I determine if the problem is with my system or with the hard drive?

It is necessary to run the SeaTools, SeaTools Enterprise, or SCSIMax diagnostic before contacting Technical Support 1.800.SEAGATE (1.800.732.4283) on an internal drive that may be defective.

Answer
For Seagate or Maxtor (or Quantum) ATA drives:

If this is a Seagate or Maxtor (or Quantum) ATA or SATA drive, please download the SeaTools for DOS diagnostic to test it. If the drive is failing, the tests in SeaTools for DOS will indicate as such.

If the BIOS does not recognize the drive or the drive does not spin please reference Answer ID: 48

The operating system will not recognize a drive that is not formatted and partitioned. If you need help with formatting:

  • Windows 9x and ME reference Answer ID: 3076
  • Windows 2000 Answer ID: 880
  • Windows XP Answer ID: 3361
  • Windows Vista Answer ID: 3844
  • Macintosh Answer ID: 492

    For Seagate SCSI drives:
Please download the SeaTools Enterprise Edition diagnostic.

For Maxtor (or Quantum) SCSI drives:
    Please download the SCSIMax diagnostic.

SeaTools, SeaTools Enterprise, and SCSIMax will test your S.M.A.R.T-compliant ATA, SATA, or SCSI disk drive for media defects, perform a read test, physical head test and ensure the hard drive is functioning correctly.

If all the tests pass (no trouble found), the problem remains elsewhere in your system. Reconfirm all settings for hard drive jumpers, cables, and ATA, SATA, or SCSI controllers, and disk operating system. Consult your host controller documentation or system manufacturer for assistance with SCSI termination or ATA / SATA controller capabilities.
