Question about Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 Notebook

3 Answers

I have a Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 that has 512mb of DDR memory currently. I have a stick of 128 that I was going to throw in there to boost performance but when I opened the compartment the there was the one stick of 512 but what looked like the second receptical for ram was to narrow for the stick to go in. Any ideas? Thanks, Andy

This model has 2 memory slots, the one that is filled with 512mb which you have found (and probably want to keep in place), and another slot that is accessible if the keyboard is lifted off.

If you google "Toshiba Satellite 1905 memory upgrade" you will find a site that gives step by step instructions to remove the keyboard to get at this second slot. I read this model's top memory capacity is 1 gb, but I THINK this can only be done with a 512mb in the bottom slot and another 512mb in the slot under the keyboard, but I am not positive.

Maybe a 1gb stick in the bottom slot that already has your 512mb stick MAY bring the machine up to its max of 1gb, but I don't think so, and you would have to remove the existing 512mb.

I think you will have to access that memory slot under the keyboard to max out your laptop to 1gb.

The slot you were looking at is probably the wireless card slot which is not meant to hold ram. If I remember correctly, these laptops have a dimm slot there on the bottom which you found and then ram built into the motherboard somewhere, but I could be wrong. You best bet would be to buy a larger capacity stick of ram, say a 1GB stick and swap that in there.

There are 2 types of memory, one for laptops and one for pc.

Your additional stick seems to be for pc from what your saying.

Additional thoughts:
I'm sure you can buy sticks for laptops at walmart or whereever you bought ur laptop. Just make sure it is the same speed type. Example: yours is 512mb ddr PC 5200, you will need to find PC5200, the 512mb and up you shouldnt have to worry about. So do your research before you upgrade or you will burn your laptop.

Where can i purchase a MPC13A-20/R 802.11b card for my Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301?

This is the only card that works in the mini-PCI slot in the 1905 series. eBay would be your best bet. You can look under "Toshiba 1905 wireless card" but ... make sure it's an Agere card, as most sellers are selling Intel, Broadcom, Atheros.... and none of them will work.

My Dell C600 won't recognize the 2 new 256 mb sticks of RAM

i think you need a same brand of 256 for it to work? and when you buy something for your computer make sure that the one you both is the same brand or code with your 128 for example you have 128 ddr2 sdram so you can only upgrade it with 256 ddr sdran or 512mb,1gb,2gb ddr sdram.
