Question about Dryers

1 Answer

It will not turn on. Has been used before and suddenly wouldn't work. The inside light works - so we know it is getting power. The timer for the timed dry ticks, so that part is working. But it does not warm up or make any drying noises.

Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

So my intermetic time is broken, the gears dont turn, and the on/ off override isnt working. I need my pool heater, what do i do?

Sounds like you lost power to the timer. Look in your electric panel for a tripped breaker. Turn it OFF then back ON.

I just replaced a light (not bulb) in my Malibu low voltage lighting system with a new one and the new one didn't work. Now the rest of the lights past this point do not work, but the ones before this...

Working with the bulbs can cause other bulbs to go out.
Malibu suggests turn power pack off when replacing bulbs.
Also connections get loose and need to be re-attached.

I have the same above T104 Mechanical Time Switch. It is hooked up to our outside lights. The timer will turn on the lights at the proper time. The timer properly turns off the timer at the turn off time....

If i understand correctly, you have T104 240V timer that has worked fine in the past.
If this is true, then breaker is correct size.

If this is new installation, then check wiring at timer, and then add up total watts of Load and divide by 240 to check if breaker is sized correctly
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/B220C.html

If timer worked fine in the past: It seems you have a short somewhere, which is puzzling why it trips when when timer turns OFF.
And the short could be inside a bad breaker -or- inside the timer -or- possibly a wire.
Move wires from 240Breaker to another same-size 240V breaker and see if problem persists.

After moving wires to another breaker, use manual override to check if suspect is the breaker or possibly a short in the timer.
Absolutely stand on dry surface or dry boards when working on this timer, to be on safe side.
Manual override should switch Load on-off, and override should snap clean and crisp each time.
If manual override lever is not crisp, then that signals timer has gone bad.

Also snap mechanism out of box using thumb-spring at top of box, and look for signs of burning and high heat, especially at contacts.

If you buy new timer, the inside mechanism can be swapped out without changing the box.

Add a comment and let me know what you find out, and I will respond if needed.
This is interesting puzzle.

Timer worked for years. Just replaced lights. There were (8) but now there are (10). I didn't do the work and didn't know the wattage (and am not positive, but this looks like the unit). The lights work,...

Download manual for Malibu 200 Watt power pack

According to Malibu website information, your power pack is correct size if lights come on.
The way to figure is this
10 bulbs x 18 watts each = 180 Watts
so 200 watt power pack is good

Does the manual override work?
Rotate the on-off button counterclockwise
If override does not turn lights on-and-off, then timer has a short

Does the center dial turn when power is on?
If the dial is not turning, then power pack is kaput, or time of day is not set

Did you reset the time of day?

2205f7b.jpg

How to set time of day:
Put your trippers in place
Red = ON
Black = OFF
Plug in power pack
Rotate arrow (colored blue in diagram) as follows
Turn dial clockwise to present time of day (diagram shows 9 o'clock)
Turn dial one or more full revolutions, then return to present time of day

If center dial is still not rotating after setting time of day, it's time for new $50-80 power pack, unless you put a $15 timer on that plug. A cheap timer might work ... keep it going for couple more years.

I have a Model ml 44t, when the temp outside became cooler my timer would not turn on the lights, it would stop rotating at the red post.

http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/professional%20lighting/ml44t%20trilingual.ashx

-I think your outdoor plug is connected to GFI plug in bathroom or kitchen >>> check reset on GFI.
-Next, plug your hair dryer into same outdoor plug to see if plug has electricity >>> electrical plugs outside wear out quicker, and get loose wires.
-Move timer cord to the other plug
-I don't know if a bit of WD 40 would help or not .... couldn't hurt to spry some on the pins at this point ...UNPLUG timer because WD is very flammable...
-Tips from manual mention checking for burned out bulbs ... I've seen that mentioned other places and don't know if bulb problems shorten life of low-volt transformer inside the box.
-I worked with timers for years, and never seen replacement clocks or transformers for Malibu-type timers
-Timers located outside get damp and dirty ... these things cause small gears inside timers to oxidize and clog so they don't work after a while ... again, a bit of WD-40 might help

Tips copied from manual:
• Make sure power pack is plugged in. Is outlet working?
• Turn manual ON/OFF switch to "ON" or rotate dial so "ON" tripper passes time line indicator.
• Is lamp burned out? Use another lamp to test.
NOTE: This lighting system is designed to last many years under normal conditions. However, lamps eventually burn out and operating with one lamp out can shorten the life of the others. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REPLACE BURNED OUT LAMPS PROMPTLY.
Conditions beyond your control such as abnormally high household voltage due to poor utility voltage regulation will also affect lamp life.

The timer has 1 year warranty.

Dishwasher suddenly has gone dead. No noise whatsoever. Have plugged it into another power source that I know works and nothing.

If you have 120VAC going to the unit, then you have one of possible many problems. Please check the following or have a qualified person to use a multimeter to check: 1. The door switch 2. An unplugged wire or broken wire within the unit or at the switch.3. Timers (especially mechanical timers) use a mode to turn the unit off sometimes the contacts break causing the need for replacement of the timer. If I have no meter handy, kill the breaker, I would remove the door switch leads(wires) and connect the two together using a little electrical tape, turn on the breaker. If it works it is the switch and replacement is needed. If not look at a broken wire or timer. You could disconnect the power leads to the motor and check if it is getting 120VAC in the run mode, If it is getting voltage and it is not running or it only hums it is burned out; if not timer, switch or broken wire would be a possibilty.

Timer not working Malibu ML88T Power pack

there are multipul 12 timers on the market BUT if you use a 12 volt power pack designed for a car radio display or even a simple 12v 5 amp laptop power suply and a cheep outdoor timer or cheeper indoor timer and run wires inside you can add lights
remember theise lights are low voltage and if you change the bulbs out you can really strech out the amprage too
low amp led automotive bulbs are a great invention they draw mili amps and use 12 volts
i converted my noma moonrays to a laptop power supply and added 30 more to a single string so i curently have 50 lights on 1 power suply pulling aprox 4.5 amps out of a 5A power supply i used led bulbs and simple moma cord now i can light the whole back yard with 1 ps and it's really bright if i use the led headlamps mounted under the soffit on the house

Microwave was working fine. Suddenly stopped.

First thing to try is to check the power point.
If there is power there, but still no activity when you turn it on, no display no lights, it will need to be taken in for service. Sorry for the bad news but hopefully it's just the circuit breaker for your power point.
