Question about Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
First, please have a look at the standard MS troubleshooter in case there's something obvious you've overlooked. Go to windows update and do a scan for hardware updates. Then go to the Device Manager (Start>Right click My Computer>Manage) and uninstall the cd drive, restart your computer, and check to see if the drive is correctly recognized. (It will normally be reinstalled when you boot up.) If not, you'll need to repair the registry, so please create a new system restore point, just in case. (And if you want to be careful, Get a free copy of Erunt and make a full backup of the registry.)
Then please see this short post and this MS article to repair the registry so your system can once again correctly detect the cd drive.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!
