Question about Canon PowerShot G7 Digital Camera
I was using my canon powershot G7 and suddenly it turned itself off and wont turn back on. I have charged the battery and replaced it but it still refuses to turn on.
Does anyone have any solutions or reasons to why this might be happening?
I had the same problem - all of a sudden my G7 wouldn't turn on. I was at a loss and was resigned to a huge repair bill or simply replacing it, until today when I took out the SD card (sandisk 4gb) to use in another camera (Casio Exilim) - and the same thing happened with that one! It wouldn't power up at all - when earlier that day it was working fine with a different SD card. So obviously it was a faulty SD card. Once I'd put a different card into the G7 and put in a fresh battery, it started working again! I am so relieved. Hopefully this might help others.

It may be the SD memory card causing the problem. I just bought a G7. When I turned it on without an SD card, no problem. I put it my old cheap SD card and it wont turn on. I take out the memory card and battery, then insert the Canon SD card and battery and turn it on, no problem.
Hope this helps someone.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

SOURCE: Wont turn on
does the light blink at all on it.
Many canons have had this same exact problem and either the owners just purchased a new camera or sent it in for repairs to Canon and I don't know exactly what canon does with them but you can call them and see if they will tell you but I bet they will just tell you to send it in.
But you've probably got dirty terminals in your camera body, or battery (or BOTH)!
I've found that the best fix if this is it is to (CAREFULLY!) clean any build- up on the contact terminals between you cam and battery with and ordinary pencil eraser... Make sure you don't leave any eraser crumbs behind...
Many times, if the camera senses an intermittent power supply, it will shut down before it even powers up. I've found this to be the 'culprit' on several cameras I have worked on and repaired... but have never had to work on this canon camera
Let me know if this works or if you need any more help
