Hi
My son has a laptop as header and it has started playing up. It wont boot
either from the battery or on the mains with the battery in place. Works
fine on mains with battery removed, any suggestions?
thanks
Gary

I had this problem too. The laptop would not start or reboot with the battery in. I could start the laptop and then put the battery in, but would have to take it out when I rebooted or tried to start up later. This was shortly after I'd realized my battery was no longer taking a charge.
I'm not sure what exactly in this fixed it, but this is what I did...
After trying all manner of machinations with no success, I took the battery out and set it aside. It still had a partial charge. These take about a month to discharge on their own. So I let it sit for a month until it should've discharged. It still had a bit of a charge when I plugged it in (I didn't have the patience to wait a month and tried again after about 2 weeks) and the computer did two things it hadn't been doing before - it showed the yellow recharge light before I tried to start up (so I let it charge for a while), then it actually did start up with the battery in it.
Note: my battery actually still holds a charge now, it's not completely dead. I'm not sure if the board recognizes a battery no longer charges and hence won't let you start with it so you don't think you'll be okay in the event of a power failure or unplugging, or if it's just a battery memory issue. Either way, try going without for a couple of weeks and plugging it back in.

check battery terminals in pc .dust and debris can act as conductors thus causing terminals that shouldnt be connected connected and causing a short.you could try as many new batteries as you like but non would work if this is the prob.if you have a small brush that you get for electric shaver;selotape it to a pen(for extention)and use to clean

It has to be something to do with the battery, otherwise it wouldn't boot at
all.
Sounds a lot of money, but a new battery might be the only answer.
Remove "nospam" from return address.
all.

I recently bought a replacement HP/Compaq battery from "Battery Pro" on UK
EBay. He is regularly listing M700 batteries for as little as ??29.99. They
will be 3rd party replacements but I was very pleased with mine - arrived in
two days, and charges perfectly with a good capacity and half the price of
an HP replacement. A new 3rd party battery pack is probably a better bet
than a genuine "new" original with dubious shelf life.
