Question about Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL Flatbed Scanner
When I turn the scanner on, the yellow and green lights (the power and ready indicators) flash on and off. There is a green light inside and also flashes on and off. The lights flash for a while then quit. Anyone seen a manual that gives a clue as to what the lights are trying to tell me?
This scanner has had SCSI reset issues prior to the current problem. It wouldn't always go through the reset sequence when powering on and if it didn't, it wouldn't be recognized by the computer.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

THE PROPER WAY ON INSTALLING USB DEVICES A. Enable usb ports on the BIOS. 1. Do not plug in your device right away. Install all drivers and software first! 2. Reboot 3. Plug the power or turn on your USB Device 4. Plug in the USB Port. 5. Windows Will detect the Device Automatically. Finish! Hope this helps.

If running XP SP2, then try clicking Start > right click My Computer > properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager button > expand Imaging devices > right click on your Microtek ScanMaker > uninstall > Re boot > and let XP pick up the device and let the found hardware wizard configure it.
I have seen plenty of hardware that when following the devices manufacturer's instructions for install, such problems as you're having occur and XP SP2 usually will cure it, though you may still need the device manufacturer's CD (for the driver) in your optical drive.
This link: http://support.microtek.com/downloads/bymodelname.phtml?viewtype=2&srch_in=ScanMaker+5950&frmsearch.x=10&frmsearch.y=11&frmsearch=Search&frm_rqst=2&axn=1 will allow you to select between the 5950 and 5950 Pro then on the next page you will be able to download the latest XP driver for your Scanmaker among drivers for other Operating Systems also.
I hope this helps, and Good luck.
