yup you should try a disc cleaner to clean the lens of your device. it might be helpful to fix your problem. try to buy that on some eletronic store. hope that helps

The bad capacitor problem was on the earlier power supply boards. The following link is to the solution for this http://www.fixya.com/support/t216825-dvd_recorder_frozen_please_wait_display The later power boards have a voltage regulator problem and the fix for this is at http://www.rbjtech.net/electrical/e85/e85.htm#0 You will notice from the photos that the early and later boards look different so it is easy to see which one you have. I replaced the voltage regulator in my machine and it now works like new.
