I have a HP t740a with the same problem (blank screen, long bleeps) and I have replaced 2x 256MB RAM with 1x GB RAM. Do I need a second RAM or is it my monitor or, PCI card (both fans work, they were very dusty, but I've since given them a good clean).

Hello,
It cannot run without RAM so it beeps. The problem is not in the Ram.
The installation may have gone faulty.
1. Connect it to another monitor first, to see if the problem is not with the monitor.
2. Press F8 on boot and select Safe Mode, or Last Good Configuration.
3. If you have not reformatted the hard drive, try recovering the system from the hidden partition (if there was one).
3. If nothing works, Reboot from Installation or Recovery CD and Choose Repair. But read about Repair option on Microsoft Web Site: Keyword Recovery console for WinXp or Vista.
4. If you cannot repair do a clean install.
5.Or if you want to try something different Install Linux for free.

Hope it helps.

Won't boot up

Hi Jeremy if you replaced a notebook/laptop cpu fan make sure that the fan has all the connections properly plugged in. The triple beep usually is an indicator for graphic / video issues but could very well be a sensor issue as well. be sure that the connections don't just look like their are plugged in but also that they are properly seated (especially important with the ribbon connections of keyboards etc).

I hope this helps.

Hi! My Hp Pavillion a1710n desktop emits a series of never ending beeps every time I turn it on, and nothing appears on the monitor. I checked and the monitor is plugged in. I dont know what's going on.

The problem with RAM or DISplay card(It can be Moisture problem) or Processor Fan is not working properly. Open the CPU case, locate RAM, remove the ram by opening the both side clips. and put the RAM back as it is. If you have Graphics card on your CPU then remove the Graphics Card also and put it back as it is. Start the PC with opened case to check Processor Fan is Rotating or not. If Fan is not working properly then you have to replace the Processor FAN. Fan ok but same problem persists. you have to replace RAM with new one. as well as Graphics (Display) card.

Problem for HP HP Pavilion dv2000 15.4" Notebook Laptop PC The power is OK but I get 1 long beep and 2 short beeps when switching on, the screen remains blank and no activity on the laptop

Disconnect all devices from the power supply EXCEPT the motherboard
Remove any extra cards including video etc.(plug monitor into the onboard)

If you hear any beeps these can indictate where the fault is.
either of these sites below will help you further with that

Beep codes Pc

More beep codes

Power up the pc and see if the fans are working.
If not then double check the power connections to the board.

If you still have no fans it is time to suspect the power supply as the probable cause.

If the fans worked then you should have gotten a display which told you there was an error and offering you a chance to go into the BIOS. ignore it and shut down the PC.

Now connect one drive only and boot again.

Repeat that until you identify the component that is giving you a problem.

Once you find the problem then remove or disconnect and carry on with the rest to see if another component might also cause a problem

If there is only one problem device then you may want to investigate that device further, Unless you don't mind replacing it
Hope this gives you the information you need

Compaq presario SR1817CL beeping when we turn it on. I has never done it before, but we just moved it and now it is beeping. Single long beeps every 2 seconds. Took the side panel off and looked around,...

Seems to me that the memory module(s) is/are not tightly seated in its/their slots. This could happen as a result of moving the system.
I would suggest that you remove the memory modules from their slots & re-install them back.

Here's is a link to a very useful document about troubleshooting HP & Compaq products using the BIOS beep codes:

try resetting your PC's CMOS, the clear CMOS jumper is usually found near the CMOS battery. note that there shoul be no power or the power cables are unplugged.

No beep,No Display on my monitor, only CPU heatsink fan is moving

have you thought about changing the battery on the motherboard, also checking that the fan on the cpu is seated properly with enough heatsink paste as both these issues will stop the pc from booting
