Monitor not working

I was wanting to connect a monitor to my laptop and when I was adjusting the display settings I selected "disable this monitor." Now I cannot see anything on either the monitor nor the laptop. How do I get the laptop to be viewable again?

Hold down the blue Fn key on your laptop when it's on and look at the F keys at the top of the keyboard, If your confused hit Fn and each F key at the top one by one until the screen comes back. Otherwise look for two squares on one of the keys in blue.

If shutting down your laptop and restarting it didn't work and you still have a black screen on your laptop, You may have to when your computer first starts on the first logo press F2 or delete key until you get into you Bios, Reset Bios to Factory Default setting and press F 10 should save setting and you monitor should be back up and running. If that don't work get back to me, But I think I will work for you.

Hello Make sure that in the bios that the video in the bios is setup to default monitor. under the video setting in the bios. try that if that don't work try this. unplug, take out battery, memory modules. after you have done all that take and hold down the start button for 10 sec. with nothing on at all ( NO POWER) You may also look for a reset button under the back panel that will set it to factory settings. Then Plug back in the memory frist then battery and last plug power in and restart, I hope that works and if it don't I would think you have already tried to plug the Svideo back in a see if that would get you some sort of screen if it does you can change back the settings on the tv monitor in the properties in display settings. If that does not work I would have you call me and talk thru on the phone. I am just hoping you did not plug the Svideo into an video output instead of an input, If you did maybe something we could do. I sure hope that something here will work for you. Thanks Bear001 and GoodLuck

How do I see VGA in put on screen

First, is the TV the only connected monitor? Second was the TV on and set to VGA (press the Input button and then up/down arrows) before the computer was turned on.

If you are seeing an invalid mode message and the TV is the only monitor attached, you need to shut down the computer and leave the TV on the VGA input. (Turn off the computer or press CTRL-ALT-DEL twice.) If this doesn't work, you may need to use another monitor and adjust the resolution output for the computer's video and then connect to the TV.

If you have another monitor, you may need to make sure that the VGA port is enabled. (Some laptops will have this disabled in the BIOS. Depending on the brand of computer, you can access the BIOS by pressing Esc, F1, F2 or F10 repeatedly just as you turn on the computer.) Next you may need to adjust the active display. In Windows 7, right click on the desktop where there are no program icons or windows. Then select Graphic Properties. Set the computer for monitor 1 or 2, extended display or both (at least on my HP laptop). Click Apply and then confirm your . (alternatively: Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Display) For my desktop, this is set under Screen Resolution in the same manner.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(at least on all of my computers, if the TV is on first, Windows 7 will autoset to the best resolution that the graphics and monitor can handle.)

When I use the external monitor S-video port on my Dell Inspiron 1721 running Windows 7 it only displays in black and white despite the internal monitor showing the screen in color.

Okay. For Windows Vista OS.

Go to Control Panel.

Under the Control Panel Home, select Additional Options at the bottom right of the list.

Click on Appearance and Personalization:

At the top right corner of the dialogue box, under Personalization, select "adjust screen resolution"

This will bring you to display settings:

Click the button that says "identify monitors" As each is displayed, it will present a number for which is the default or main monitor (1 or 2) 1 is the main monitor.

To change the external to the main or number one monitor: simply drag the #1 monitor to the left side (if not already there) If it is, you'll want to set the external as the default:

Do this:

While in Display settings, if the external is the #1 monitor, make sure to check the box for "extend the desktop to this monitor" and "this is my main monitor" for the external display. This should switch all settings to the external monitor.

Also, make sure the the resolution is correct for the size monitor you have. For a 20" (such as mine, external Dell monitor) the resolution is at the highest (1920 x 1080).

Also make sure it reads (to the right of that) "highest 32 bit). If this is not an options, make sure you're adjusting the external monitor and not the laptop screen. Otherwise you may need to upgrade your video card.

You should not need to do this though.

After you have set this, go to Advanced Settings and select Monitor. You will see at the top, a list of two monitors; your external with it's brand and name - and the laptop screen type and name. Select the external monitor name: Click on properties, drivers and Update Driver, then select to Automatically search online for driver.

Please let me know if you need further assitance.

Is this connected to a laptop?

If so, you need to be sure that you have the monitor output set for an external monitor.

Do a right clock on the desktop, select the bottom item to personalize your display. Select Display Settings and choose to display on both monitors. I usually use the extended display so that I get two screens. If you just want one screen, you select the external monitor as the primary monitor.

Trying to run monitor from my lap top and goes in to autoconfig and I see my desktop, when autoconfig is complete, I get blank screen.

In general more info is required, but most likely this is an issue with your display settings. Try the following:

1) Try pressing the Fn and Display buttons (at the same time) on your laptop. Try it once, twice, and then a 3rd time.

Chances are that your laptop is displaying in a resolution that is not completely compatible with your monitor, so when the display settings are switched from laptop LCD and montor, to monitor only, the resolution should adjust automatically.

2) If that doesn't help you, try lowering or adjusting the resolution on your laptop. If in XP, right-click on the desktop and go to Properties, and select the tab for display settings and adjust it. If in Vista/7, right-click the desktop and select Screen Resolution/Display Settings and adjust it there.

Good luck. Let us know what happens!

Disable Power Management on Windows 7 or Vista If you are using a desktop computer, chances are that you don’t want the computer to go to sleep automatically. This is even more the case if you are running Windows 7 or Vista in a virtual machine for testing purposes.
Disabling Power Management in Windows 7
Start by clicking on the power icon, and open up the More power options:
sshot-2009-10-21-23-05-42.png Under the “Additional plans” section, select High Performance, then “Change plan settings”:
sshot-2009-10-21-23-06-52.png Then change everything to “Never”, and save the changes:
sshot-2009-10-21-23-07-41.png Disabling Power Management in Vista
Disabling power management is simple and easy. First go to the start menu and click on the Control Panel.
Click on the System and Maintenance link:
vistacontrolpanel%5b1%5d.png Then click on the Power Options link:
poweroptions%5b1%5d.png Then select High Performance:
highperf%5b1%5d.png This will disable the automatic sleep mode, but will still turn off the display. You can click on Change Plan Settings to disable that as well if you want.

I want to connect a Ultrasharp 1907 FPt monitor to my Dell inspiron. I have a power cable and also one from monitor to lappy, do I need a driver?

to toggle the screen between your laptop and the dell 19" monitor. Hold down the Fn key on the laptop and tap the F8 key. The screen would move to the external display.

There are three settings that can be done by the Fn + F8 key combination
1. Both the laptop and external monitor works
2. Only the external monitor would work
3. Only the laptop screen works

Monitor "Goes to sleep"

Have you tried to go in thru the control panel and select "display"? From here you can go to the screen saver section and adjust the time it takes for the screen to cut out. Of course you want to use a monitor that you can read before you set up both of your screens.. See if that helps....
