Most likely cause of death: motherboard charging circuit. there isn't a simple way to fix this one, i reccomend you get a new motherboard.

Test dell xps 210 power

Most laptop power supplies are made for a particular brand, so the best way to test is in another Dell laptop. The other way is using a voltimeter, first testing the power cord alone, and then testing the tiny connector.

Need to reset the bios password on my dell xps m140 laptop.

You would have to reset the whole bios to default which maybe something you cannot do. The only other method would would be to take the laptop apart and remove the battery that keeps the motherboard BIOS memory powered. It should look like a large watch battery. Remove for 5 to 10 seconds, and replace. Then put the laptop back together and that should reset the BIOS, password and all.

My Dell XPS M140 has gone thru 3 power supply/cords in the last 2 months. With a new supply it just makes a loud hum.

try upgrading your power supply, if you're burning through them then theres a good chance that your power demand is higher then the cords are rated for. Replacing a power supply is quite simple as long as you ground yourself to something metal to make sure you don't manage to accidentally discharge static into your mobo. Also make sure that you're at least somewhat comfortable performing this task if not then id personally advise that you find someone who will

Where are the memory slots on a dell xps m140 laptop?

One memory module, ('Stick') slot is located on the bottom of the laptop, in the Memory Compartment. (Has two Philips screws on the cover, and is located close to the battery release button)

The other memory module goes under the keyboard.

Here's how to replace them from Dell Support,

Dell XPS M140 laptop shuts off after powering on

Most laptops that I have worked on that power off that quickly turned out to be an overheating problem. Is the cooling fan running for the brief period that you can hear the hard drive before it powers off ? If the fan is running another potential resolution might be to remove the processor and apply new thermal paste.

DELL XPS M140

One of three things, 1- power supply, check your power supply with an ohm meter to see f it's getting the proper output to the machine. If the supply is starving the machine of power the charging system won't work to it's full potential. 2- the power management system on the motherboard, if this system isn't working properly it can divert power from the charging system. If it's just glitched then a bios download or chipset utility download will fix it, if it's malfunctioning, then motherboard replacement is the only option. 3- the battery itself, I have a Dell, and in the past two years, I've ordered two new batteries. The first held a great charge, more than three hours, but only lasted about eight months. The second only holds little more than an hour charge, but has lasted well. Batteries are just funny that way. Start with the power supply test.
