Question about Televison & Video

I recently purchased a new machine but can't seem to get it to function as I require. Idon't need the tuner part of the package since I have Sky HD+. What I need is details of all connections necessary to allow me to record from 1) live broadcasts I am watching 2) programmes I have already stored on the HD+ internal hard disc. I have 2 SCART leads and 2 HDMI leads. What is the best way to achieve this? Yours Faithfully John Peers

The machine I bought is a Toshiba VCR & DVD recorder with digital tuner Model DVR18DTKTB.
THe problem is I need to know all the correct cable connections to allow recording from what I am watching on screen via SkyHD+. The set-up instructions are all about recording from the new machine's built-in channel tuner. I don't need this facility since Sky provides all the channels I need.
The TV has 2 HDMI sockets, the skybox has 1 and the new machine has 1, so it seems to be the best method of hooking up.The recorder will not record from the TV and when I connect it to my skybox via SCART leads I get Sky pictures with sound track from the tuner on the recorder.
    See my problem?

There's nothing amiss with my TV or Sky+ box - they've been working happily together for over a year (connected by HDMI lead). What I need to know is how to connect my new VCR/DVD recorder so that I can record programmes I am viewing via the existing set-up. It has a built-in tuner which I don't require but all the instructions are about recording programmes via its own tuner. It will not record what I'm watching either on DVD or VCR. The cabling connections seem to be the problem.

That still doesn't solve the problem. The DVR/VCR records from stations it receives on its own tuner but when recording from satellite broadcasts only the soundtrack is recorded - no picture. Please help.

You have 1 HDMI out put from your Sky HD+ box, connect it to your TV HDMI input. That all you need. When you watch Live broad cast or program from you internal HD of Sky box, you can control from your Sky Box.

If your programs stored from a separate unit, other than Sky box, then you use SCART to connect from your separate unit SCART output to TV SCART input.
If your TV doesn't have SCART input then you need either S video or Video Component fro VIDEO and optical cable for Audio connection for your separate unit to TV.

I cant view my sky channel on my tv

So you want to view your sky TV in a different room?
You can achieve this a number of ways.

Purchase the multi-room package from Sky TV. This will give you fully independent TV reception in each room. (Basically two sky boxes)

Purchase a TV sender which will wirelessly duplicate the output on the TV to another device.

Connect your Sky box to a second TV with high-quality co-axial aerial cable connected to the RF2 output on the back of the Sky box.

Tv is 4 years old yesterday it lost its built in freeview channels. when trying to get the menu up it appears for a second then goes off. Tv still receives sky and picture is good

Hello pip_o

It's possibly a defective digital tuner, but the vanishing menu suggests a more serious (and expensive) fault with the main/AV board, assuming it's an LCD TV. It's impossible to be certain which one without doing some testing, but due to the inherent dangers with high-voltage electronics, I don't advise on self-repair for TVs.

If you're looking for an inexpensive solution and the TV is no longer covered by any warranty, I'd suggest buying an external Freeview box to connect to your TV. This would also enable you to upgrade to Freeview HD. Being 4 years old, your TV will not have been fitted with a DVB-T2 (Freeview HD) tuner.

If you want to try this solution, I can recommend the following box, which is great value at just £25.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270828771661

They are described as "reconditioned", but I've bought and installed 2 of these for my own customers recently and both have been brand-new. The majority of these are unused returns which Tesco are consequently not allowed to sell described as "new". For a lesser known brand, I've been quite impressed with some of the recent Technika products and they are easy to install and come supplied with all the necessary cables, etc. Additionally, if it doesn't work for any reason, you will be able to return it under UK Distance Selling regulations.

Before purchasing this (or any other) Freeview HD box, please check your TV has a spare HDMI input socket as SCART cannot carry an HD signal. If you don't have a spare HDMI socket, I'd also check your TV has a spare SCART input socket or you will need to disconnect your Sky box every time you want to use the Freeview box - which brings me to my final point . . .

. . . Off the top of my head, I can't think of any Freeviews channels which aren't available on Sky, so as long as you can still use your TV for Sky, do you really need to spend any money on it?

Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric

I need control center for my brother mfc-240c

You can download that from www.brother-usa.com. Look near the top-right corner for the blue box labeled Service & Support, and click "Downloads." You'll have to select your machine's family (Multi-Function) and model, then your computer's Operating System. For most machines, Brother offers a choice of barebones drivers or the complete package; you'll want the full package to get the Control Center.
Brother requires that you install the driver package before you plug the machine into your computer. If you have already plugged it in and let Windows try to install a generic driver or something, you may need to download and run a utility for uninstalling the machine completely before installing the package properly. That utility program is probably at the bottom of the page of drivers on the Brother site.

Tuning to pick up sky feed

Sounds like from discription the sky feed is set up for analog channel 6. With my TV-HVR-1600 card, there is an option in the wintv application when you click the menu button in the application that says channel suite. If you select this option, you should find and option for analog source. Select analog source in this screen and you should be able to manually add channel 6 in the box at the top of the analog souce screen. Also if you have the sky feed connected and you you click the scan button on this screen, it should detect automatically is the sky feed is on.

NAD 402 Tuner problem

It's sounds like a chip gave up the ghost. You may want to try
turning in on and off a few times to see if you can get the culprit
to function properly again. Electronics are strange creatures in that you can at times just shake them and they will begin to function properly again. A loose wire here or there, instead of any real problem.

However, if the problem's more serious, given the cost of servicing these products, you may be better off just going to Ebay and buying a used one.

I recently purchased a nice used NAD 402 with original box
for $58. Upon arrival I found that the backlight to the digital display was not functioning, however the display itself was, and the sound of the tuner is amazing. It is nearly the equal of many tuners which I have owned in the past at as much as 50 times the price.

Best of luck to you...

VCR functions do not work (play, record, ...)

Sounds like the idler assembly isnt working. Without this assembly, the system cannot get the tape to actually move, and most systems will shut down if the tape isnt moving to prevent damage to the tape. In truth, this can be a complicatred repair, requiring the machine to be taken apart quite a bit. I would suggest taking this kind of a problem to a repair shop, but with the cost of simple VCR's coming down constantly, and the upcoming switch to DTV making the machines tuner obsolete, it would probably be more economical to just replace the machine.
