I have the same probably. The card was working fine and then one day when I booted the computer it would lock at the Windows XP screen. I uninstalled the Linksys drivers and tried to uninstall, but the computer locks up everytime I insert the card.

I have a very similar problem with my Linksys WPC54GX4 wireless adapter. Initially my system (XP) locked up when loading the driver, at the point where the card was inserted and the driver was loading. After reoving 'SpyBot' software and uninstalling the uncompleted driver software the driver loaded and I could connect to my router and the internet.

Everything worked OK for a day and a half but on boot I could not find my router wireless connection.

I uninstalled the Linksys drivers and tried to reinstall. The software loads 100% but, when asked to insert the card and the system says 'installing driver' the computer locks up.

I've tried a system resore to an earlier date but problem remains.

This is an issue that is commonly happeniong with this model, due to the fact that the main chipset was made from a diff manufacturer as compared to other linksys products. Here is what i would suggst you do:

1. Right click on my computer icon>select properties>Hardware>Device manager

2. The adaptor in question will def either turn up with a yellow question mark or a yellow circled black exclamation mark. Depending on the error code (erorr code 10 or 28, usually these 2 occur), double click the icon and select update driver.

3. When the computer asks if it should search for the necessary file (on win XP), click on the option whereby it allows you to install the driver youself.

4. Once that is done, if you have the driver (obtainable from linksys.com) on your PC, just point the tool to the .inf (there should be 3, including autoplay.inf, which you dont need for the driver installation) file in the folder and select both drivers.

5. restart computer.

It should be working fine now. Please do not hesistate to reach me for alternative solutions if this does not work out. Thanks.

Card is inactive

You might want to make sure that your wireless adapter is enabled. Depending on what operating system you will need to go into your network connections area and enable it.If you have a laptop make sure that the switch has been turned on. It is usually located on the front side of the laptop.

Linksys WPC54GS wireless adapter installation issue

There's a possibility that the adapter is defective. However, you may still try the following:

1. Make sure to uninstall the software if you still have it installed. Remove it from the Programs list or under Add/Remove Programs.
2. Check Device Manager and make sure adapter is not under Network Adapters nor Other Devices. It might be called Network Controller if driver is not installed correctly.
3. Unplug card, shutdown computer and when PC is powered off, plug card back and restart computer. You may insert the CD on this process, but do not run/continue the CD setup wizard.
4. When computer is back on, you should get a Found New Hardware bubble message or wizard.

Just finish the wizard and tell me how it went. Goodluck!

It sounds like you may have a band PCMCIA slot. Have you attempted to use any other expansion cards in it to test this theory?
