Question about Husqvarna Designer I

3 Answers

Sewing backwards My Designer 1 won't sew forward, only backward. I have turned it off, and back on, no good. I have tried changing the stritch length, type, etc. It does things fine, just backwards. Oh and I have to hold down the reverse button to get a programed or normal stitich or else it sews only those tiny reverse locking stitches. Help please.

The reverse button works by hitting it twice in succession to make it stay on (it lights up), and you turn it off my hitting it once again. If you just want to reverse for a little bit, you hold it down while you sew, then let go. Is the button lit all the time?
Having said that, it sounds like Nannayoyo needs to take her machine to a service centre - the electronics behind the button panel might need replacing. Is it possible the button is stuck in? Maybe phone a Husqvarna service person - not a sales person - and ask for advice.
Everyone - are your machines new? If yes, you need to go back to the sales centre straight away and get it fixed or replaced while you wait. If these are problems that have just appeared when your machine used to work perfectly, probably the best solution is to take it for a service. It might just be a speck of dust has settled on the electronics behind the panel and is causing unpredictable behaviour.

If the reverse button were pressed twice to sew in reverse then turning the machine off and on will reset it.

Follow the advice of loosenut and have it checked by a qualified Viking technician.

I just had one in this weekend with a broken part causing this problem. It's not too hard to locate the problem, or to fix it, but the part is only available from Husqvarna Viking. If you find a qualified technician that's having problems isolating the problem, have them contact me at radcal67f@yahoo.com.

Yes, this is a problem that a trained Viking repairman needs to resolve. It might need to have the zero feed position adjusted.

My machine will not sew in the forward position...It keeps sewing backwards like it is in reverse.....Need help ASAP

All sewing machines have a gear lever. This is so you can sew a seam forwards and backwards. Consult your manual.

Machine will only sew in reverse

You wrote,
"Machine will only sew in reverse - Sewing Machines" A: I'm just a tinkerer, hobbyist, who did run across this same problem before. I can give a general non-model specific remedy based on my limited experience with mechanical sewing machines that get locked into sewing backwards, that is "they only want to sew in Reverse":

1. Verify what is the normal direction of the fly wheel in forward sewing for your machine. Most sewing machines, including Singers, always sew with the top of the flywheel moving toward the operator, regardless if sewing forward or backwards; but older friction-wheel White Rotary (RF) sewing machines, have the flywheel running in the opposite direction (top of Hand-Wheel turning away from the operator when sewing.

2. If it has Reverse Lever/Switch; check that it is in the correct position; if still only sews in reverse, change positions of the Direction Control lever (or Button, etc.), and see if it changes direction to correct the problem.

3. If this does not help, then jiggle the Reverse Lever and follow the linkage inside the machine and see if there is anything broken, loose or out of adjustment. Some machines have reverse control linkage elbows in the top part of machine, and by poor design are prone to accidentally pop backwards, causing sewing in the opposite direction of the position of the Reverse Lever/Button (Backwards when you want to sew Forward). On occasion, a Kenmore 158.1787180 got locked into the backwards sewing mode (the dog-gone' est thing), but by following and analyzing the linkage, I found where it was going wrong, and popped the indecisive linkage elbow back the way it was supposed to be and fixed it. [ I had more detailed notes, on this fix, but when I read them, without the machine in front of me, made no sense to me today so I can't share that till I revisit the conundrum again.]

4. If all else fails, you may be able to hold or clamp the Reverse Lever/Button in the Reverse position, so it sews Forward (I've done this before too (as a short-term fix) until I figured out how to adjust it back the way it was supposed to be.

5. If this post helped you, don't be afraid to indicate so, so Fixya will know. If it was useless, "ouch", but I'd like to know that too, so I'll be more selective on what I really know more about. I try to help, though this is probably a trade secret that anyone who knows is discrete about who they share the information with.
Sincerely

Model sw2145. Cant remember how to stop backwards sewing

The direction control Forward/Backward is located next to the stitch length control on the main vertical hoiusing of the machine. Lever up for forward down for backwareds.

My sewing machine will only sew in reverse

The stitch length lever on some machines will back stitch when the lever is in the uppermost position. Bring the lever down to an appropriate stitch length and your machine should stitch forward.

Sewing backwards

try adjusting the top thread tension for the loops
try changing the needle
and see if that help any if not then take the machine back and
tell them what the machine is doing
if the machine was adjusted, then they should have checked the
stitches to make sure that the stitches were normal both forward
and backwards.

Make sure the plug from the buttonhole foot is going all the way in when you insert it. If that doesnt correct it, then the foot may be bad.

My husqvarna classica 90 sews backward instead of forward. Can you help with an answer why?

Make sure the stitch selector is not set on buttonhole. If the machine has set up for a long time not being used it may be that the stitch length is stuck in reverse.

Started sewing backwards now not moving material at all

Sounds like the machine's age is causing the lubrication to get sticky.

Try changing the pattern by moving the pattern selector around.

Take out the bobbin and remove the thread and presser foot, raise the presser lever, set the pattern to zig zag, set the stitch length to maximum and run the machine at full speed. While it's running, repeatedly press the reverse lever all the way down. Run it for at least a few minutes.

Viking sewing machine model 6430 will only sew backwards

Th cam stack gears have gummed up on you you can try getting the back cover off along with the side and soaking the machine down with wd-40 and running it while forcing the reverse button in and out if it breaks free try and soak up as much of the wd-40 as you can and then oil anything that moves. I know this may be discouraging but viking no longer supports this machine and you might be better off taking it to an older viking dealer for help.

Sewing machine only sews backwards

Make sure that the machine is in straight stitch forward and the stitch length is the highest level that it can go. If that doesn't make it go forward, you will have to use the old hair dryer trick. Take the top lid of the machine off and heat the inside with a heated hairdryer. Work the stitch length and the reverse until it frees up.
