Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-F717 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Blurry image in view finder

When I look through the lcd or view finder my image runs together in a vertical mess.  It appears that I am looking through a smeared window pane.  When I snap the picture the recorded image is also smeared.  What's up here?  It has been this way for months and the camera has always been inside and dry.   Thanks

Yes, I have the same problem (also in Ohio). I have heard it is a known problem and that Sony will fix it free since it is there responsibility.

I had bought a new sony $150 (7.2 megapixel, but no where near as good) to photograph coins. I reformated my old 1 gig memory stick with this new camea and it failed. I cannot reformat this now in either camera. Can I do something to get it to format?

I can not believe what I just found out thanks to this site! My DSC-F717 was doing the smeared image thing as well and I had given up hope 5 months ago with estimates in excess of $300.00 to fix the problem. Not one time did the Sony service Department say it was under an extended recall. I have registered it and waiting on pre paid shipping instructions.

Exactly the same symptoms! Vertical smeared images in View & LCD. All other features are normal. No pics, all as seen in view finder and screen. This is my sole eBay camera, and this just happened! Excited to think Sony may help with it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Nathan 517-663-8813

I have a very similar problem with the images coming as smeared. It started out with horizontal bright lines starting to show up on the display and also in the pictures. Then, the whole picture started to come out blurry and ghost like. After trying to re-charge and keep the camera going for sometime, sometimes the problem diminished but never totally went away. I am very happy to read that this issue has been acknowledged by Sony and they are offering free service. I am not sure though if there is any information available on their website about this.

Thanks to you guys for this info. I love my camera and thought it was doomed. Now, I've sent it off to Sony. Anyone have an idea of how long it took to get their camera back?

Digital Camera and Video Phone Number 1 800 222 7669 - it's automated, just say your model number, then "no" to accessories, then "no" to connection problems, then "picture" for ccd issues. Its that easy!

The problem i m having with my camcorder is when i want to record film screen goes blank but i can watch my previous recorded videos

Look in the view finder when recording instead of the screen. if you see the image there then the unit is probably set to look through there. Many of the new units dont' have a full view finder to lens item they actually have a small lcd screen inside the view finder. Check your options for recording.

Also if the view finder is tilted you need to close that before usign the lcd.

The image will not appear simultaneously on the LCD

monitor and the viewfinder. It will appear in the

viewfinder when the LCD monitor is in the lock position,

and it will appear on the LCD monitor when fully

Brand new Canon EOS Rebel XS. Suddenly, image in the view finder is blurry. Auto focus seems to be working, and pictures are coming out fine. But sometimes, the autofocus focuses on the wrong thing, and so...

Next to the viewfinder ther is a diopter adjustment so you can change the focus in the viewfinder. this is so if you need glasses the camera can be set for you. Start by focusing the camera on something, then slide to turn the diopter adjustment until it looks sharp and try not to bump it.

It appears the CCD image sensor is going bad. Both these cameras are specified in Canon's technical notice regarding this issue. If Canon determines that this is the problem (and almost certainly it is), they will repair your cameras at no cost, regardless of warranty status. If you're not in the US, contact your regional Canon service facility.
