Yes it can. The moulding near the contacts has probably melted. You can test it by bridging the contacts. If the element gets power, then you can replace the timer.

Dryer wont stop buzzing

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

Timer
The timer could be the problem. To check this, turn the timer to a timed cycle say 30 minutes or so then time it. If in 30 minutes the timer hasn't moved and the dryer is still on, the timer is bad and need replaced. If in 30 minutes the dryer is off, the heating element is your problem

Heating Element
This is the most likely cause for some dryers timer not advancing. Some dryers have two heating elements and if one goes out the timer will not advance if you use it on an automatic cycle but you will still feel heat inside the tub. replace the heating elements

Timer won't advance on autosense,seems to work normally otherwise. timer advances fine on all other settings. was thinking it was the cycling thermostat, but the blower seems to be cycling. puzzled

when on auto the heat comes on and then shuts off and then the timer advances,when the heat comes back on the timer stops advancing,when on time dry the timer will advance no matter what's happening with the heat.next time send the brand name and model number so i can help you better,if it's gas you could have bad gas coils,you'll have heat for like the first 15 to 30 minutes then when the coils get hot they fail and no heat until they cool down,also if the vent line and the duct that the lint filter goes into hasn't been cleaned out the heat will shut down and if that happens the timer isn't gonna move.check that out and let me know what you find and send the brand and model number.

My dryer quit heating and at the same time does not stop at the end of the cycle. Just keeps running. Is there something I can do to fix this problem?

If its on automatic cycle the timer won't advance if theres no heat. It will advance on timed cycle, though.

The dryer is not heating up and the dial stops at the cool down so the dryer will not shut off by it self. Its a kenmore 70 series dryer.

you need to send the model number,open the door and look around the opening where you put the clothes into the dryer and you'll see the tag with the model number.it will start with 110. or 417.because you have no heat that's why the timer won't advance,when the heat shuts down then the timer advances when the heat comes back on the timer stops moving or advancing,no heat the timer won't move.send the model number

No heat

Your problem is more than likely one of the following:

* heat source: elec. heat element, gas coils, gas igniter or radiant sensor (depending on elec. or gas model)
* thermostat
* timer

Dryer doesn't heat and runs constantly

depending on the model; if the timer is in the automatic cycle it will not advance if there is no heat, it must heat in order to satisfy a thermostat to tell the timer to advance this is what makes it automatic. If the timer gets to the end of the timed cycle and will not advance to off, sounds like a bad resistor connected to the timer, I would first check the heat circuit to find out why its not heating. Dont mean to complicate, but everything in the dryer has something to do with heating, element,thermostats, temp switch, timer and even the motor. Check for burnt wires at the terminal block for the cord. hope this helps.....
