Hitachi 61SBX59B 61 inch has brightness and color problems

I am having problems with my picture on my Hitachi 61SBX59B 61 inch rear-projection TV. It is almost 10 years old, but I would like to know if this is fixable and something affordable. For one the brightness in the picture isn’t what it used to be. So I turn up the brightness and contrast to 100 just to try and make it better. It makes it brighter of course, but the depth in the brightness still isn’t like it was. The color is also really off now. Like the green on a Football field now has a brownish/green color instead of a normal green. I also notice on really white scenes and bright images that it almost looks like it has a blue-ish glow around it. Or sometimes I see a red-ish glow on red images.

I also notice when I use the Magic Focus that the blue seems clear and fine. But the red and green is really blurry and has a glow around them and. It also doesn't seem to finish the entire magic focus process anymore and when it stops... there is a green 10 on the bottom right of the screen before the actual picture comes back on. Does this sound like it could be that I just need to change the fluid in my color guns?

I am unable to take any pictures. It's been a long times since the lens on the 3 crts has been cleaned. I took the back off last year and looked myself. I didn't know what to look for... but I did wipe off the dust on the 3 lenses I saw. It didn't seem to make much of a difference. A friend told mine said it could be the fluid in the color guns is contaminated. Do you think that could be the possible problem?

Your friend is talking about the coolant--each of the 3 picture tubes has a sealed unit full of Glycol to cool the face of each tube--very rare in HItachi--the glycol can become contaminated---usually the blue first--means you will have a yellow picture. The saying 1 picture is worth a thousand words really does apply here--find a friend with a good digital camera--take some photos--what have you got to lose--???? Dirty lens will make the picture darker and dull over a period of time--if they are clean and the problem is still there--something else is wrong----Listen: I post photos on Craigslist here for repairs I do--lots of people send me photos of what the problem is with their set--sometimes as soon as I see the photo I know what is wrong---to help you I really need a better idea of what the picture looks like--digital cameras that take photos(or even cell phones) can be uploaded into your computer and sent in a email..... Let me know if I can help you further Regards, SD TECH

1.) I am not sure what your problem is--as far as the poor brightness, etc--when was the last time the lens on the 3 crts this set uses were cleaned? 2.) The magic focus only adjusts convergence at about 16 points on the screen-- 3.) I have a suggestion--first clean the lens--I can tell you how. 4.) If you can take some photos of what the picture looks like I may be able to give you a better idea of the problem--I have 2 HItachi sets myself--I have fixed hundreds of them--did two the other day 5.) I am here to help you--if you need my email to contact me or send me photos let me know here. 6.) Click on my name here and you will see I know what I am talking about. SD TECH
