Dropped the Camera, Lens is stuck open

I dropped my camera on the floor, lens side hit the floor. Now the camera lens is stuck open. I turn the camera on and off and it wants to open/close but the lens stays out. It dented the lens a little bit. I want to know how to fix it, if I can even fix it and how much will it cost? Thank you!!

I already tried posting this but I think it falied. Just in case, here it is again!

I just now fixed my own Nikon S220 (very similar to 210) which suffered the same fate as yours. However, I laid my camera down on a cushioned foot-rest (you could use a couch cushion or pillow on a table) with the lens facing UP, pressed down on both sides of lens front gently yet firmly, and BAM, the lens went back in all the way. I turned the power back on and the camera is good as new (except for the small dent from the fall of course).

I suggest you try this before spending $100 on repairs and/or buying a new camera!

I had the exact same problem when I dropped my camera about 5 feet onto concrete. I noticed the lens was jimmied to one side a little bit. It was stuck open and could not use the camera. I just pinched the lens and pulled it out and it works great now.

Camera lens cover won't open when you turn the camera on. Says "power off then on" but still stuck

This kind of problem occurs if camera dropped on floor that broke lens mechanism OR lens mechanism got dust particles that make it stuck.
Usually lens mechanism needs to be replaced to solve the issue, however, user level try to solve the problem is to tap camera on your palm a few time gently that may release stuck lens mechanism and it start working again, if that does not help then lens assembly will be replaced.
Thanks.

Lens Stuck

If the lens is stuck out then you will find it is usually one of a few reasons.

1. Check the batteries. (obvious I know).
2. The camera has been dropped or knocked.
3. The camera has grit or dirt in the lens mechanism.

Providing the batteries are ok then 2 and 3 usually mean a professional repair. The lenses tend not to be something that the average home user can remove and take apart. The cost of repair also might be more than the camera value so you will need to find a good repair shop near you and get a quote.

Kodak camera dropped lens cockeyed stuck open

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Lens error: canon sx110is

I had the same thing happen to me and didn't use my camera for about two months. One day I decided to gently hit the side of the lens and the side of the camera closest to the lens as well. I still can't believe it, but my lens suddenly popped open and has been working fine ever since. Before this nothing had worked, including the gentle hitting of the side of the lens I had done before. I think I hit, or I should say thumped, the side of the lens a bit more forcefully this time. If your desperate, you might want to give it a try but make sure you keep thumping hit for a while before you give up. I think it dislodged some small particle that had been blocking the lens from opening up.

When i turn on my camera it says Turn the power off and on again

Hey, my camera the dsc- w80 did the same thing. When I turned it on, the lens opened 3-4 times and then it said "turn the power off and on again".
When the lens opened an closed, I pulled on it with my fingers and twisted it. I kept doing that: Turned the camera on and off, kept pulling and twisting the lens and now my camera works again!

Lens Stuck

Same problem guys!!! LENS HAD GOT STUCK - ABOUT ONE THIRD OUT after a knock. After lots of playing, and tapping and batteries in and out tried the whole twisting and pulling thing whilst turning off and on.

After a few minutes it came free and whole lens popped out. I then had to twist the outer part of the lens to straighten that up and allow it to fully retract. Works a treat now!

PS Tried the Sony online chat support - useless!!!!
