Question about Onkyo DR90
I would unplug the unit and take the cover off, sounds like it could use a good cleaning, you can also lubricate moving components with Vaseline. Reverse the vacuum and blow excess dust from the unit, locate the laser lens and clean with alcohol and dry with a cotton cloth.
Hopefully this resolves your issue.

The general amateur fix, and one with surprisingly high success rates is to brush dust accumulated on the laser lens. This is assuming you get this with all disks, otherwise better not risk opening it. Plug it out, open the screws, open it up, if necessary remove another board covering the lens, and gently brush the dust off. Assemble back and hopefully you're solved. Anything else is for the lab(motor, lens assembly, focusing problems etc) Good luck

SOURCE: My Akai dvd player shows
The reason the player is not reading the disc and showing no disc is either because the disc is not sitting properly on the lens from the disc tray, or the lens is weak or the lens is dirty.
To test if it is the disc tray, open the cover of the player with the appropriate screwdriver, place a disc directly on the tray and apply a little pressure on the tray, if it reads the disc, then it is the tray.
All you have to do is to adjust the disc tray and screw it tightly.
To test if the lens is weak, try several DVD disc on it,and test them also on another tested ok player, if it does not work on your player and works on other players, then the lens is weak.
to fix this, get the appropriate screwdriver, open the cover and unscrew the disc tray.
You will gain access to the lens, carefully disconnect the lens and replace it with a new lens. then it will be ok.
To test if it is just that the lens is dirty, clean the lens with a lens cleaner and test a DVD to see if it will work.
