What is your brand and full model model from the tag on or in the unit? It will have a fuse, but something caused it to blow, most likely a shorted high voltage capacitor or high voltage rectifier diode. NOTE: The FixYa system is not currently notifying me when folks reply to my posts, so please contact me directly for more help.

Running and then you heard a pop? Are the fan, lights, keypad still functional? In other words, does it run but not heat anything up?

If it was in cook mode then a loud pop and it died, it sounds like the High Voltage Capacitor shorted, blowing the line fuse. You need an ohm meter to go through the high voltage section to check everything before you replace the fuse (which will blow again immediately).
BE CAREFULL!!!!! If you take the cover off, be sure to short across the terminals on the high voltage capacitor just in case.

Light bulb is the only thing that works. Check main fuse and that is okay. Nothing else comes on. The pad is dead, etc.

Nothing works at all. It's plugged in and the breaker is fine.

There is usually a 125V, 20 AMP line fuse inside the microwave, mounted at the point where the power cord enters the back of the unit. Unfortunately, you will need to uninstall the oven (if this is an over the range model), UNPLUG it and remove the exterior case to access. The case comes off in various ways depending on manufacture and model. If the model number you listed this question under is correct, you have THREE potential causes for a complete loss of power. 1. Line fuse 2. Line filter/noise filter circuit board 3. Thermal Cut-Out (Thermostat) for the Magnetron. The line fuse is connected in line with the power cord inside the unit and is listed as part of item 11 under the "Blower-Motor" parts heading. The line filter printed circuitboard is listed as item 19 (part number: R9800472) under the "Blower-Motor" heading. The Thermostat for the Magnetron is listed as item 8 (W10254040) under the "Cavity" parts heading. The most expensive part is the line filter board, which runs about $25.

I would recommend you check the fuse, first. This the easiest and least expensive repair. It is also the most common. If you managed to overheat the oven any time recently, you may want to check the thermostat to see if it is still good, next. It should read 0 ohms when measured out of the circuit across the terminals.

If the line fuse is blown, you can usually purchase a box of fuses at a hardware store for just a little more than what the manufacturer charges for a single fuse. 125V, 20AMP Ceramic Slow Blow fuses are recommended.

If you have any questions, or need additional assistance troubleshooting, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: Make sure you take any resistance readings with the microwave UNPLUGGED and the component under test isolated (removed) from the circuit. These ovens can blow a fuse by simply sitting idle. This can occur from any power fluctuations, brown outs, voltage spikes, etc. Or, it could be the symptom of a component that may have failed. If you find the internal fuse blown and replace it, only to have it blow again, you have a more significant problem than a simple blown fuse.

No power to unit

What has most likely happened is that somone slowly opened the door when the unit was operating without pusing the stop/pause button first. Doin this will cause the door interlock to blow the internal fuse as it is a design safety interlock to prevent the unit from operation with the door open.

Power plug unplugged

There is a 15A fuse inside the cabinet that must be replaced. Remove the cabinet screws 4 on the side and 6 on the back then slide the cover to the rear about 1/2 inch. Lift the rear of the cover up about 15 to 20 degrees and continue to pull the cover off.

Follow the power cord from where it enters the rear of the unit. The black power wire will terminate at the fuse block. Removed the fuse and replace it with an EXACT type replacement fuse. (buy 2)

If the fuse blows again there is another problem in the unit. If it works normally there is probably nothing to be concerned about. Just make sure that before opening the door you push stop before opening the door.

To re-install the cabinet cover graso the cover from the rear... holding the back of the cover up about 15 - 20 degrees and slide it back into place. Make sure to engage the side locking tabs with the front part of the chassis before installing the mounting screws.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Kenmore micrwave overheated. now won't work. is

There is a fuse inside the chassis that can be accessed by removing the 4 side screws and the 6 back screws on the chassis cover. First unplug the unit then remove the 6 screws securing the cover to the shassis. Once the screws are removed lift the rear of the cover about 10 to 15 degrees and pull to the rear. The chassis cover will then come off. NOTE: There is a large capacitor inside the chassis that will stil have a charge. Make sure to avoid it when reaching inside the unit. Follow the power cord from where it enters the chassis to the end terminals. One of them will terminate at the fuse holder. Remove the fuse, obtain a new fuse of equal value amd intall same. Plug the unit in to see if you get some from of power be it a light inside or the contral panel lighting up. If it is just the fuse and you see signs of the unit having power once again unplug the unit and re-install the chassis cover.. Make sure that the cover interlocks on the front of the chassis properly. All mating surfaces should appear flush. Re-install the 6 screws and retun the unit to service. If nothing happens please reply to this post.

Microwave pops and sparks when running. Nothing

in the top of unit is a round cover and damage is coming from here. This is serious and needs to be checked out. the cover contains a stirrer that moves waves around<<circulates them>> in this cavity probably paint is thin and allowing waves to penetrate metal of cabinet. Call manufacturer and see if there is anything they will do for you before taking it upon yourself to either get repairman or get rid of unit.stirrer is probably damaged and cabinet burned from waves.

No power. Stopped working with a few seconds left. Heard like a popping sound

unit has a fuse that does fail and then there is nothing at all. would check outlet < plug anything in and make sure it works > if it does then you have to decide wether you want to repair because there may be a reason why the fuse failed < internal short or magnatron > or built in limit switch might be problem as well to find out wich is cause takes troubleshooting and with other manufacturers it is worth giving them a call and see what they offer you.

Sharp Carousel Microwave R-1460A no power, door switch went first

You will want to replace the fuse and door switches. You will not be able to run it without replacing door switches. You do not need a new microwave. Door switches go bad, it has nothing to do with radiation.
