We have 6 of these! Color Problems! Help!

All 6 power on with a picture & sound but the colors are off. Anything we should start replacing right away with these? We got them all for $100 out of a storage unit auction. We have't opened them up yet.

HLN5065W picture turns black and white and shuts down

Sounds like your color wheel may be at fault. Do you ever hear any unusual noises coming from the rear of the TV? Color Wheels usually make a humming sound as they go bad. This is because the tiny bearings in the color wheel motor have begun to misshape from use and heat. This is a known issue in this TV! Expect to spend $300-500 to have this serviced by a service company. If you have the right stuff, you can do it yourself. If you search the web, you'll find a color wheel for this TV for under $100, but installation can be tricky.

Sony KF50WE610 Vertical Blue Lines Across Screen

the vertical blue lines indicate some interference from other electronic gadgets near your tv. it started showing up on my sony grand wega when i installed my wireless modem. i almost ordered a new rear projection lamp costing over $100 but decided to experiment. i first moved my desk computer farther away from the tv then isolated the wireless modem router by placing it inside a small glass - the vertical blue lines became lighter in color so i dedided to find another small glass that fit inside the first glass container then put the router in the double glass - no more blue lines and my wireless modem router still works.
do some deductive thinking to figure out what's messing up your tv and isolate the interference.
good luck!

Picture loses color on samsung HLN4365W

if the picture is still visible but lacking color, it is not the lamp. check the color wheel and make sure it is working. replacing the color wheel is a pretty easy task and can be performed by yourself without many problems. as a sidenote, older samsung dlp tvs seem to experience this problem quite often, although they usually sound like someone strangling a cat before the bearings go out.. should carry your replacement for 100 USD or so, the part number is BP96-00250A.

before replacing it, make sure your old one isn't just stuck or not spinning at full rpm, if this is the case, you can usually remove it and clean the motor using electronic or contact cleaner that is safe for plastics.

to check everything out, you will need to remove the back panel of your tv, then power it up (keep kids, small animals, hands and such away from the back while powered up), take a look in front of the projection lamp and see if the wheel is turning. if not, a very good writeup is available here, this is the writeup i send my own customers to if they feel like attempting the repair themselves.

replacing the color wheel is actually not very hard at all, if you have ever worked on your own desktop pc (installed a new drive or upgraded it yourself) then you should be able to do this with limited difficulty.

hope this helps,
