most oven doors just lift off the hinge when about 1/3 open for cleaning purposes.any good glass shop should be able to replace it for you if wanting to.

Oven Door Exploded

This fault has occurred on a number of these ovens and I've seen it happen occasionally on other makes and models.

The explosion is spectacular, but is actually due to a safety feature as all modern ovens which use glass doors must use toughened glass. This is heat-treated glass which is resistant to most knocks, but when it does break it shatters into lots of small granules instead of sharp edged shards.

In use, heat makes everything on the oven expand a little and afterwards everything cools down and returns to normal size. The problem is that the glass and metals do not expand or contract at the same rate and so there's always the chance that the differential expansion between the glass door and the metal hinges can put enough stress on the door to make it shatter. The engineers who designed your oven knew this and will have tried to ensure that the hinge design could cope, but it may be that they didn't do well enough.

The other possibility is that the door has a manufacturing fault: when toughened glass is manufactured the glass gets a lot of stress built into it (that's why it seems to explode when it breaks). After the glass has cooled down in the factory every one is supposed to undergo a couple of simple automated tests which will either cause the glass to immediately shatter or will cause it to be returned to the ovens to have the excess stresses removed. Sometimes these tests are not fully effective at identifying the "bad apples".

I'd strongly advise you to contact the manufacturer of your oven as the door should not fail in normal use even beyond the warranty period. What you have suggests a design or manufacturing fault and you may be offered a free repair without admission of liability.

Glass is shattered to to replace

To replace the door glass do the following:

1 remove the oven door by pulling it up and removing from the the hinges. If glass is broken , then secure glass with tape. Have a table with a cloth on top ready to lay the door.
2 Remove the outer screws , starting from lower side of the panel.
3Remove the inner screws. Keep all set of screws ordered, and take noteof the order you remove them. You will follow reverse order inreassembly.
4 the frame will be free now,
5 Remove the external glass panel and leave it in a safe place.
6 Replace the inner glass.
7 Clean outer glass and metal door, re-assemble it and mount it back

You will need a window pack, part number WB56T10152 which is not hard to replace. You should be able to order it right from GE, or an appliance repair firm can get it for you, often without extra shipping if they can combine it with other parts they need to order. Should set you back just over $100. You can remove your oven door to make it easier to work on. Use a little screwdriver to pull down the little square hole you will see on the top of the hinge opening on the frame of the oven on each side. That little metal part will lock the hinge open. Next, lift on the door and pull it toward you. The hinge actually stays with the door and lifts right out of the rectangular opening in the oven frame. Reverse procedure to reinstall repaired door.

Door glass shattered 3 hours after cooking

The problem is that the holding screws that secure the glass in place were most likely OVER TIGHTENED.All the screws around the support holders of the glass have to be tightened just right and the glass can cool off without the pressure that makes it pop.
