Remove the battery and run off of the A/C power adapter without the battery installed.

If it works, the battery is just discharged too much. After Windows settles, insert the battery and let it charge.

Thanks for the additional information ...

It sounds like a heat problem with the CPU, but still could be defective hardware.

    1. Without taking the laptop apart (well, not too much)... remove ALL accessible hardware, such as all memory, hard drive (two screws), modem, battery, WiFi module, DVD drive (if possible), etc. Turn ON computer... you may need to put one memory module back in. .. Does it stay on? If so, re-install all of it to see if it works now ... or re-install items that you suspect are ok.

    2. If it's CPU heat (most likely), then you must take the laptop apart and apply a dab of "heat sink compound" .. Radio Shack $5.

    3. You may consider returning the laptop ... good (non-Celeron) HP/Compaq deals start at $300 (frys.com)...

    Hope this resolves your issue.

    Please comment again... thanks!

The heatsink on the cpu may not be secure or thermal paste is not present, its probably overheating, if thats not the problem, the motherboard can do that with those models

Computer does not boot up
The problem maybe the RAM, it could be faulty or just needs reseating to make proper electrical contact.
Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.
Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faults on your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience to deal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows them to look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collection of replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components on your computer.

Normal 0 When you push the power button, the blower fan comes on. In a few minutes you should hear a second "click"--that is your compressor starting. Do you hear that second click?

Power jack repalcement Gateway 7330GZ Notebook

you have options....#1 send it out to gateway for an arm and a leg...(i have the same model and had the same problem), #2 find a local computer repair store...they will most likely charge about 30 for the part.(that's what i was charged + 60 an hour for labor took 2 hours...) or #3 do it yourself, if you can solder then i can talk you through most of the dis assembly..plus you can get the part remarkably cheaper
