This is usually caused by a motor getting too hot. The motor has a shutoff to protect it against burnout. It will reset when it gets cool. As the motor overheats more and more these shutoffs become more frequent and longer

Motors get hot for several reasons:

  1. Motor going bad
  2. Lint around motor causing it to retain heat
  3. Vent system open at some point inside or behind case allowing heated air to remain in motor area
Follow the procedure below to disassemble and check interior of dryer. Vacuum carefully especially around and in the ends of the motor.

Disconnect power.

Open the door and look along the front upper edge of the door opening. In the top left and right rounded corner of the door opening you will see screws going upward into the top. Remove both screw and raise the top.

Look down inside the open top dryer from above on each left and right edge there will be a screw holding the front assembly to the case of the dryer. Remove 1 on each side.

The dryer front can now be pulled toward you about 3 inches at the top and then lifted off the bottom clips and swung away to the right from the case. Be careful not to strain any wires connected between the case and the front.

This will expose the underside of the dryer along with motor and venting for checking and vacuuming. Perform thorough vacuuming and reverse the above process for reassembly.

Starts and runs for about 20 seconds then stops

Sounds like your motor is going bad, runs until it gets hot then shuts down, after a little cool down it will run again. Eventually the motor will just seize up for good. Good Luck!

LEA30AL Amana Electric Dryer will run then automatically shut off like it is getting to hot then won't start again until after it has a chance to sit for a while

sounds like you have a bad motor, itried looking up your model number but it's not the full number, could be a thermister in there but usually when the dryer heats up and dies it's the motor

The dryer runs for a while then shuts off. after it cools down I can re-start it but it will shut down again after a while. now it won't do anything when I try to use it.

you motor on the dryer is going out. all of the motors used in dryers and washers have a thermatic protection switch so if the motor heats up too much it will shut itself off to prevent fire. once the motor has cooled down it will restart until it reaches that set temp. in the motor then it shuts down again. You will need to replace this motor

Good luck hope this has helped you some

Have a 90 series kenmore dryer, won't always run. replaced the motor about 6 months ago, and now it will sometimes run, sometimes not. It gets hot, and will run for a bit then shut down, then start up...

If the timer is not advancing but is ticking that could be the problem. A dryer achieves a set temperature and stays there for a certain amount of time during a cycle. If the time never changes it may just keep heating up until the heat sensor shuts it down. If it is starting and shutting down its likely still related to the heat sensor.

Gas dryer get hot but than goes cold

This sounds like a problem with your fan motor. The dryer is getting too hot and the gas is shutting off until it cools down. That fan keeps the dryer cool by moving the heat to the clothes in the drum.
You can easily check this by feeling for air flow in front of the exhaust vent outside. No air movement = fan problem = heat shut off in 10 minutes. Good luck

Kenmore Gas Dryer Gets Hot, Shuts Off Early in Cycle

Sounds like a faulty high limit or cycling thermostat. The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a certain temp. It should be mounted on the exhause duct inside the back of the dryer. It should look something like the one in the picture:

Hope this helped and best wishes.

Kenmore Dryer 90 Series will start but suddenly stop...

Hello , Sounds like your motor is over heating , it will run until the sensor shuts it down from getting to hot , it is most likley because the motor is covered in lint and needs cleaned. Hope that helps.

After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.
