Double-click the "speaker" icon in the lower-right tray on your desktop.
The "Master Volume" control window will open.
UN-mute whatever you have to to allow the speakers to work.

You can try running a system restore and restore the system to a point when the sound was working. Probably a software conflict has caused the problem. You can also run a hardware diagnostic that is usually included with the notebook.

Sound not work

HELLO, FOR SOUND NOT TO WORK ON YOUR LAPTOP, A LOT OF PROBLEM MIGHT BE THE CAUSE, 1) CHECK IF THERE IS NO CROSS SIGN AT THE HEADPHONE AND SPEAKER ICON, 2)HAVE YOU RECENTLY DONE AN UPDATE OR INSTALLED A PROGRAM,YOU CAN UNDO THIS BY USING SYSTEM RESTORE 3)CHECK WHETHER YOU INCREASE THE VOLUME OF YOUR SPEAKERS 4)IF THE PROBLEM IS A HARDWARE PROBLEM, THEN YOU NEED TO GET AN EXTERNAL SPEAKER AND PLUG IT TO YOUR LAPTOP

I cannot get sound from my internal speakers on dell d600 latitude. Headphones work and sound comes out of internal speakers briefly when pulling jack plug out? So I know they work but just cannot get...

This sounds like a defective audio port. In normal operation, plugging in a headphone plug breaks the connection to the speakers. On your laptop, when you pull out the plug it makes a connection, but only briefly. Unfortunately the audio port is built into the system board. I don't think you will find a software fix for this problem. Your best bet is to get a USB sound device for external speakers.

Speaker Problem

Nothing is wrong. Most computers automatically turn off the internal seakers after the external seakers are connected. Go to cntrol pannel and see what you can do under audio options or some such equivelent. Check back with more problems,
hope this helped/helps.
