Guys i did it! i just disabled media server and COD MW2 started updating!!!
F my life
I had the same problem when I try to install this update, after the progress bar reached 60% it would display the error code 8002f1f9 and then shuts off. I tried it many times by turning on the system, but after it turns on it would go straight to installing the update and no other options were available. After much frustration, I decided to try something different. Some how I fixed it this way and it was really simple.
1. Press the power button from the back to turn it off.
2. Press the power button from the back to turn it back on.
3. Turn the system on by press the button in the front, hold it until it beeps twice.
4. Let the update install.
For me it was about to reach 100% and installed successfully this time.
Good luck everyone.
I had the same issue, plus I was having issues streaming video. Streaming kept being interrupted. To fix both these issues, get into your router settings (usually http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/, but differs with your router). Disable UPNP.
Disabling UPNP fixed all my issues, updates run perfect and media streams perfectly.
get a 360
you can try it in the ps3 safe mode.
I tried it and it worked in one time!
1. go to the playstation website and download the newest firmware update.
2. put the file on the usb stick.
3. turn off the ps3 system by the standby button(not that button on the back of the ps3)
4.press the standby buttons and hold it untill the light become red after the two short (beep!) sounds:P
5. press the standby button again and release it when you hear two short (beep) sounds.
6.connect the controller with a usb cable and press the ps-button.
now you are in the safe mode.
7. in the safe mode are 6 options.
select the last one...system update.
you need to plug in your usb-stick and press start and select to start the system update.
This was my short tutorial.
sorry for my broken english:P
I hope it will work for you!

Here is the problem. If you are using a wireless connection and keep getting a error about the server. All you have to do is good wired and it will work the first time. I think it has to do with the security on the routers. Hope this helped!
The Safe Mode option and updating from there with an USB is the best method to fix the error. I've tried everything else and have been unsuccessful. If anyone know of a permanent fix please email me at untamedgorilla at msn dot com
i had problems with BFBC2 it didnt even start then it said and error has occured then i disabled media server it still didnt work
For me, I had to ENABLE my router's UPNP in order for the update to download 100%. I also had the media server and RSS:Board disabled first-- and didn't enable them after I enabled my router's UPNP. So it may have been the combination that worked.
FYI-- for anyone who owns a Mac and not a PC, downloading the update from the Sony site to a computer doesn't work because they don't make the update in a format that is recognized by a Mac so it automatically deletes the file upon download...
If you have problems with downloading the system update, then use the other method given in the system. You can download the update from your CPU off the playstation website. Place the file on a memory card or usb flash drive and plug it in the PS3. Choose to Update via Storage Media. Locate the file and install. I haven't tried it, but you might even be able to download it off the PS3 internet browser off the website!
As for updates for games, that's a totally different monster. I still have problems not completely downloading game updates. I contacted Sony, and only got a "Sorry for the Inconvenience" reply with a bunch of links for troubleshooting.
guys this happened to me all you got to do is change it to a wired for and ps3 update then change it back to wireless
ok the same thing happened to me and i solved it go into your router (i have linksys)and DISABLE the unpnp when you do this save it and everything should be fine. google it if you do not know how to modify your router.
my problem ended up being a malfunction in the ps3 and i had it replaced by the shop. software updates should download without any problems if it gets to a certain percentage every time you try to update then it is your ps3 thats the cause .
Try this link . . . www.sony.com/playstation3

Disabling the media server solved the problem. Thanks!
can you give any video about how to fix ps3 the problem of my ps3 is when i turn on it shows me update section and it did not complete up to100% it stops on 61% plz help me by video
I'm having the same problem with the new update. It gets to 62% and gives me the error 8002FR1C1
My problem appeared to be caused by a corrupted firmware downloaded using a wireless internet connection.
Problem solved by downloading the firmware file from the Sony website using my PC and a wired internet connection. The firmware was then copied to a USB stick using the directory structure suggested by Sony in their FAQ. I then booted the PS3 with the USB stick attached and the update process found the uncorrupted firmware on the USB stick and completed the firmware update.
i updated my routers firmware and that did the trick

Everytime i try to update to the latest patch of Battlefield Bad company 2, it will disconnect few minutes later. then i won't be able to connect to the PSN anymore. it will show 800100A DNS error. then i have to turn off the PS3 system for a minute and turn it on again. then it will connect to the PSN, but then when i try to update the patch again, same problem shown up!! HELP, i tried my other game, it works fine. i've tried enable DMZ to my ps3, same problem. even power off the router and on, same problem!!
tried loadz of times to update my ps3......disabled media server, turned ps3 off and on.......still no luck? never had problems before???????????
thanks u guyz
can someone give me a link to the sony website to get the firmware i cant find it:D thanks
hey if ur name is amirsniper on ps3 thast my old acc i sold my ps3 dunno how u got it anyways have fun
I know this is a bit (!) late but the way I fixed my sons ps3 was to download the update to a usb stick, start the PS£ in safe mode (hold down the start button until you hear three beeps) and then go to system update (option 6) and you can do it from there no problems.
Hope this helps someone, I had phoned Sony who were as useful as a fish on a stick.
I was getting the error a network connection cannot be established. As per previous answers. Simply going wired while you complete the update then going back to wireless fixes the issue.
OK. Yes hear we go. I am in the UK and I am back on line. Systems seem ok. Just helping you America who is probably still ***** off due to the breakdown.. So little me is telling big you that now we in the UK are past the 29th bug and systems seem ok. I logged straight in tto COD MWW2 with no problems. Multiplayer function was working as normal.. So don't forgetr, I am behind every corner with a rocket launcher to blast you to the next level. I repete-The UK is back on line-800105F has past. Ssystems are working !00% ok
The tip by Galaxy works. I had the same issue, disabled UPNP on router and PS3 - WORKS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
everytime i try to download a game update the estimated time jus keeps goin up and it will say error what do i do?
For me this error meant hardware failure. I tried taking out the hdd
while updating and it didn't work, i tried the system restore and made
no progress. I'm assuming my problem was getting the YLOD, I fixed
that and then tried to update and then I found myself stuck in a cycle
of installing the update. So after screwing around with it for many
hours while it was updating I realized it was hopeless. So I tried the
ps3 recovery menu, system restore thing, which deletes everything and
starts you fresh, but it never restored, I left my ps3 on system
restore for almost a week and no progress. So if your familiar with
the YouTube "YLOD Fix PS3" video, apply the same thing here, the only
difference is that instead of heating up just those two chips, heating
the entire motherboard evenly worked for me and I used a hair dryer
because I didn't want to spend too much money, it just takes a bit
longer, but it fixed my problem, my ps3 works and is fully updated and
i'm downloading stuff right now. If the restore doesn't work for you
and your ps3 is out of warranty, before sending it to sony and paying,
I'd try what I did.
I've turned off the mediaserver I've done ALL, but NOTHING works.. what is this ****... Please help me
if your ps wont finish the update make sure all usb ports and memory card slots are empty if any things pluged in hardware can interfear with the software update

I have a PS3 that is stuck in a loop doing an update it just starts loading the update as soon as you turn it on and gets to about 60% then fails and when you turn off and back on it just starts all over again.
Any ideas would be most welcome.
- you could change the playstation for a new one
- you could get wired connection
- you could disable the orange bar at top
- change router
- or if none of them work your stuck like me
i had this problem and just reset my router and modem by unplugging them from the mains for 10 seconds. for some reason my internet provider seems to cause problems with my ps3 when it changes my IP address as it does from time to time but this seems to cure it.
just bypass the router for the update (if posible), i have no troubles otherwise
I was having this problem for Assasin's Creed, GTAIV updates. Once I disabled the RSS Feed/ticker (orange icon) so as not to be displayed, I was able to download both updates within 2 attempts.
i think it mite be a technical fault when i first got it adn i iddi system update for the 1st time it didnt work after a rew trys i finaly gave in and compleat .YES.but keep trying eventully it will work mabye if u leave alone for a while that is i chec mine aobut 5-8 minz each time and there u go and u people who have call of duty 4 add me if you want amirsniper

Super - Thanks. I wonder why Sony can not put that on your screen in stead of all those error messages. Not impressed with Sony, since many people had this problem already for years! Thanks again.
