There may not be enough power supplied to the regulator valve in order to open the valve.even though it glows the power level may not be correct

How do i light the pilot light

I'm fairly sure you don't need to light it. It should have an igniter on it.

The igniter (a glow bar) sits inside the combustion tube and glows white hot when it gets the proper voltage. Then, a radiant detector detects the light from the glow bar and sends voltage to the gas valve, which lets the gas flow into the combustion chamber and ignite.

If you igniter isn't glowing, disconnect the connector to it and ohm out the igniter. If it reads open, then replace it. If it has continuity, then start checking your thermal fuse and thermostats.

Good luck!

, ModelMy Maytag will run but not heat. The igniter coil lights, but the gas does not flow. What may be wrong?

If the igniter works either a valve for gas or the thermocouple are suspect here.

Whirlpool SF315PEK oven pilot seems Ok but gas in oven wil not light. How do I check that the gas is flowing or if it needs to be adjusted?

Hello,
If what your experiencing with the oven is that the oven igniter glows but their is no flame, the cause of that is going to be because the igniter is weak and not getting hot enough to open the gas valve and allow the gas to flow. I know it seems improbable that since the igniter glows that it's the problem but i tell ya with 100 assiduity that's exactly what the problem is. Replacing the igniter will fix your oven.

Maytag oven will not heat, no gas flow. Broiler works, clock and timer works.

Hi,

You may even see the orange "glow plug" (called a hot surface igniter) glowing orange and so assume that it's OK. Not necessarily!! You have to measure the current/amp drawn by the igniter and compare it to this repair sheet before you can say it's OK or not. The gas valve has a bi-metal that open when a certain amount of current flows through it to heat it up. The igniter is wired in series with the gas valve. As the igniter gets older or weaker, it's resistance increases to the point where not enough current is flowing to the gas valve bimetal to open it up. As a result, the gas valve never opens up. BTW, a common symptom of the early stages of this problem is erratic temperature control in the oven due to delayed firing of the bake burner while cooking.

The hot surface igniter will not come on - check igniter with a ohm meter, you should have continuity through the glow bar, the glow bar can also crack = new igniter time. The glow bar comes on but the main burner will not light - you should have an amp probe to check properly, but often this is a hot surface igniter problem. The hot surface igniter often looses it's ability to get hot enough to open the gas safety valve. The safety valve can fail, but most times it is just a bad hot surface igniter. The hot surface igniter can also quit part way through cooking , in other words the oven may cycle a couple of times and then it just sits there with the red glow from the igniter. See this service sheet for the proper way and amp readings for the hot surface igniter system. Hot surface igniters do weaken and will eventually generate less heat than they normally could. When this happens they can still allow marginally correct current to flow to the oven gas valve for it to open but not get quite hot enough to ignite the gas burner immediately. When this happens, gas released into the oven can sometimes build up to the point where when finally ignited, the amount of gas lit can cause a small explosion inside the oven or cause an odor of gas with out the oven working. Yes, your glow bar igniter can glow orange-red and still be bad!! How a common gas valve works - click here.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Glow plug gets red but oven will not ignite. Broiler ignites but has seperate glow plug.

Check to see if you are getting gas to the oven burner. If it will light with a match then look into adjustment of the flow plug, but if it won't light, then look at the gas valve or switch.

Grill will not light

Try replacing the regulator if you get no gas flow, or very weak gas flow. If you have gas flow and you are trying to light the grill with the ignitor. The rotary piezo ignitions must click with each turn, if they don't then they are bad and need to be replaced. If you have a new lynx with the glow plugs, check to see if they are glowing, if they are glowing and the grill has gas and still won't light, then the glow plugs are not getting hot enough which means you are leaking current somewhere and have to trace everything down to find the short.

Furnace will not light. Igniter glows but no gas

Make sure that the switch on the gas valve is in the on position. If it is and the gas valves coming into the furnace are open, you probably have a bad gas valve.

The clock(computer?)broke so I replaced that part it seems to work. I then tried the oven it will not light. The ignition glows red but does not light the gas. I can smell gas. I tried lighting the oven...

Just because an igniter glows, does not necessarily mean it is good. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401858-replacing_oven_igniter_gas_range

It sounds like you may have had a couple of problems. The gas smell concerns me though. If an igniter is weak, you shouldn't get any gas flow in the oven. This is a designed safety feature that prevents free flowing gas from filling up the oven cavity without ignition. I would recommend checking your igniter for the proper current and/or replace. The link I provided, lists the steps required. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

How do you light pilot light?

Dryer does not have pilot light.  There is an ignitor that glows when the dryer is started and lights the flame when the gas begins to flow.  With the front of the dryer off start it up and look for the glow. when it glows hot enough (or on a newer model it might be a spark) the gas should ignite.  When the flame sensor sees that the gas is ignited it shuts off the ignitor and keeps the gas valve open until the temperature sensor gets high and shuts it off.  When the temp sensor cools down the cycle repeats.
If no glow or spark-->bad ignitor If no gas flow-->bad flame sensor or bad gas valve coil If gas comes on and goes off quickly-->lint filter and/or vent pipe or outlet may be clogged or bad flame sensor.

No heat

You may have a weak igniter. Just because the igniter glows, does not mean it is working properly. The glow bar type igniters are supposed to draw a certain amount of current in order for the gas valve to open. If the current potential is never met, the gas valve will not open. This is a safety feature used to prevent gas flow without ignition. The current readings for the igniters are as follows: Round style glow bar: 2.7 to 3.2 amps Square style glow bar: 3.2 to 3.7 amps If it is reading less than the required amperage, replace it. This may just solve your problem. Let me know if this helps you.
