Re: Broken Hengis

It is a design problem with the metal hinge which fit in the plastic shell; and also a problem with the shell plastics.

So the plastic shell dont bear the metal piece resistance in the utilization positions. I had this problem with the original shell so bought a replacement shell a year ago, now the replacement shell got broken too and I just would like to get a metal or epoxy replacement shell to kill this problem.

SOLUTION: use the NDS lite with broken hinge carefully until the top get totally out of place and then think on sending it to repair or buying a replacement shell to DIY. Dont use the NDS when top is out of place or you would need a top screen replacement also.

Good Luck

Nintendo ds lite has a broken hinge

You can buy a new plastic housing for your DS lite on many different sites. Some are great quality. If the DS still works (despite the broken hinge) it makes sense to replace the housing.
You should be able to find enough videos on youtube to learn how to disassembe the DS and not do any harm. Make sure that you buy a tri-wing screwdriver (also called a nintendo screwdriver).

Hope this helps

Broken top screen (original DS)

Replying to the first post:
If you have broken the ribbon cable, which is highly likely if you have broken the hinge, then the DS will not work. It does not turn on unless there is a connection to both screens. You will need to buy a new ribbon cable for it:
A useful site I found is:

Once you replace this then it should work for you.

Repling to th second post:

I would recommend buying a new case for it at least because the ribbon cable will break if left broken due to the strain on it.

The more expensive but easier option is to buy a new one.

Hope this helps,

I don't know of a repair center but can offer to purchase them from you if you don't think you can repair them yourself. I can help with walking you through each repair if you think you can do it.

Miy nintendo ds lite will not power on

If both of your screens are not broken, then the problem is the motherboard. your best bet is to go on ebay and look for some cheap broken ds's( ones where the only problem is the screens being broken or the shoulder buttons not working or something like that, so you would be able to use just what you need: the motherboard) or if your lucky you'll be able to find working ds motherboards all by themselves.

if you do this, there are plenty of online guides to help you out. if you need some then just email me at

good luck with this! :)

Screens not Working!!!

Its possible though sometimes it is expensive so dont worth the work.

-Top screen broken: you can buy a replacement and carefully do the work by yourself with the help of a guide (youtube have many) and some tools (3 winding screwdriver is the less common though not much). The foil data ribbon can be bought separatelly for the original NDS though the new NDS lite have it soldered and very difficult to work.

-Broken plastics: a broken hinge means you need to buy a replacement shell. Anyway buy a complete shell from a DS modding shop or take parts from a non broken plastics DS (water damaged one may be good) in a place like ebay. You would be lucky if you find a non broken screens and good plastics DS for parts.

At the end you may be over your repair budget and not only that, you would be very near to buy a new unit with this money. Each one make its own choice.

Good Luck...

DS broken in half

I recommend you to change the broken case, you can choose to change only the hinge and keep the good case parts or change the entire shell. By the way stores usually sell the entire shell so you can choose. As your screens are still working you are lucky because so often the brown flexible conductor to the top screen get broken so be careful.

You can also use a silicon or hard plastic case to put over your broken NDSL to keep it in place just as the fast non technical option.

Here are some links and you can find text and video guides googling around.
