I had the same problem. The F1001 fuse was blown, it is a 1.6 amp, 125 volt fuse, GMA type.

Playes then just turns itself off

If the tapes are dirty or old that makes the player work too hard and just shuts down. Player itself may be wearing out.

I have an older model (about 15 yrs) When I turn the CD player on, there is a clicking sound and the music will not start. Any suggestions?

It sounds like the pladder motor that your CD sits on is the problem, sometimes I find the rubber pladder itself needs to be adjusted so it is clearing the mechanism, bringing it up a notch will solve the problem, if that is not the case then the unit needs to be checked by a proper service tech.

My 5 Disk CD player doesn't work. It wont read any kind of CD. The radio and Tape Decks still work though. How can I fix the CD player.

Hello Alison hi, we need to check two parts to see which is the problem section why your player wont read.

  1. Does your CD spins normally, check your player if the cd spins normally, if you can see the disk spinning, take note of the spin, is it to slow? An abnormal disk spin has problems with its spindle motor assembly.
  2. Does your CD spins and then slow down to a stops, did not read the disk. This is caused by two things, FIRST: your CD player lens needs cleaning, you can buy a CD lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, SECOND: The lens has degraded or worn out due to use and time, this needs a replacement lens assembly.
This things are way beyond a normal user, I suggest you send it for service. Sorry, there are no user serviceable parts here.

You will not believe it, but he solution if Homer D'OH! simple. Had the same thing, until I realized that what I thought was the CD hold spindle is acually a cardboard protector for the CD components. It seems to be a very flexible CD player "face" correct? It's actually removable cardboard - pull it out and the CD components are now exposed. The CD will properly mount on the spindle...has pretty good sound.

If the fuse blew again then there is more than likely a problem with one or more of the boards components. First start by unscrewing the power supply and looking on the underside, you may see some burn marks. If you do then it is likely that the component above the burn marks has blown and needs to be replaced. If you do not see any burn marks then the best place to start is with the diodes on the board. If its still not working, e.g. the fuse blew again then it may be that the problem lies elsewhere on the power supply... Good luck.
