WEP code is a password configured into both your network router / access point and network adapter. It is intended to prevent others that do not know the password from using your wireless connection. It also encrypts your wireless to limit what someone can intercept when monitoring your wireless communications. Use your User Guides for the router and wireless adapter to determine how to disable the wep features. They are relatively easy to find in you follow the respective user guides in most cases.

The wireless network is broadcasting but it will

Sounds like you may have an encryption problem. Are you running an open or secure network? Try setting it to Security > Disabled and see if you can get on. (Please note where you were before you disable the security) This will be under the Wireless > Wireless Security tab. If you can connect after disabling the security then you probably did not enter you key code correctly. OR... You may have set it to a level of encryption that your wireless laptop does not support. (Don't know the age of the laptop - some older ones will support WEP only and "b" only.) Make sure that you are broadcasting in both "b" & "g" ranges and if WPA won't work for you, then try WEP. It is a little difficult for me to tell you exactly what to do because I do not have all the necessary information but perhaps this will help. The main thing is to disable the security first and see if you can connect. If you can, then this is a BIG clue and good news. Then you know it is an encryption issue.

Typically the encryption choices are WPA - WPA-PSK - WPA2 - WPA2-PSK - RADIUS & WEP. I would recommend WPA-PSK with TKIP for normal "modern" applications. If your WRTP54G has the Auto Security setup button on the front of the router you may want to use it to automatically set up your wireless security. You can tell by feeling the raised rectangular push button on the front panel.

Good Luck!

Hi, I am trying to connect another laptop to our wifi but when i enter the netgear pass code it does not regonise it. Any ideas?

The router's passcode is a different thing to the WEP/WPA encryption code.
Type into the internet browser of a computer that has access to the router and disable the WEP/WPA encryption, and press Apply or Submit.
Now Enable it again and it'll ask you to choose a password. Put something in and Submit that. That password is what you would put into the other laptop to connect.

Hope this helps

Cannot connect to internet via wlan but can lan

The only thing that seems to be missing here is did you try another wireless card? If its built in you can get a usb wifi or pcmcia type. That will probably get you back online via wifi.

you need a WEP key i'm guessing you're trying to say. go to a browser, type in the address bar and then login. the defult login name is either user or admin. the defulte password is either password or 12345. after logging in, find the menu that says wireless. from there you can either disable the WEP key, or write down the WEP key and type that into your laptop when it tries to connect. disabling the WEP key brings down your internet local security, but is not a problem is you don't live too close to anyone

Hi, doesn't really matter which, what is important is what ever it is you choose, it should be the same/consistent all through out the wireless network/system. example, if you choose wep $ key is 12345 in your router/AP, then all you wifi clients should be using wep $ key of 12345. Choosing or not choosing what wireless security mode to use is not preventing you to log unto the internet, they are designed that you can securely communicate/acces the router/ap and if granted acces, the router/ap will then be your gateway, so first you must be connected/logged on to the router/ap before you can share its internet. Hope this be of some help/ pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.
