Question about Pioneer PDP-5070HD 50 in. Plasma Television

1 Answer

Pioneer Elite Plasma TV 2-yrs old loses color randomly.

I bought my Pioneer Elite Plasma TV (i think its a 50 inch) June or July 2007. Recently I noticed the colour starting to distort usually with yellow dropping out and leaving a general reddish / greenish hue after operating for a period of time, say an hour or two. I thought it was the cable box but the problem is evident for all the DVD inputs as well. I know that the screen can produce "yellow" because when I navigate the TV's menu, the highlight color is bright yellow. So I am guessing there is something wrong with the way the TV is processing inputs info. Lately it has also started doing more weird color things: turning completely B&W and then purple and green (the "zombie" effect!). Anyone wnat to take a crack at this one?

Thanks. I really appreciate it. the actual model number on the back panel of the display is PRO-507PU. I couldnt find that model number on Pioneer's web site. maybe you have better resources?

Actually I fixed the problem by accident. I realized the problem was not with the The Plasma screen after i swapped the signal input with another functioning TV. Instead it was with the Sony amplifier signal processor thinggy - a dodgy cable connection which, when I jiggled it, returned my TV picture to true colour vision.

Would need model number to search properly. On some sets a capacitor "C2601" of Y-Drive assembly contacts the audio bracket and it is damaged, can cause a abnormal picture.

Could not find any bulletins or tips for this problem, but it would seem to be the main control board or the input board. Worst case would be the PDP display/panel assembly. Either way it would have to be checked out at a repair shop so it can scoped and tested to isolate what the problem actually is. Here is a website that will give you an idea of parts costs. Sorry I couldnt be more help but havent worked on a lot of pioneers.

Sounds like the connection fault to COF. If you wish to get more details, check the site linked here. It has illustrations to faulty plasma screens, and description about related faulty boards. You can compare it to that of your TVs'. It will be best I thinks.
Pull up previous posts by its left sidebar, or type in the brand name and model number to of your set, to its search box, and press 'Enter' or view it in Mosaic / Timeslide option.

Lost the color on my pioneer 50 inch tv

Your Tv may be misadjusted by any way I thinks. Set all the modes to factory defaults. To set it to factory defaults do the folloing:

2 Select "Option with (UP or DOWN button then ENTER)
3 Select RESET with (UP or DOWN button then ENTER)

confirmation screen appears. Press [ => or then press ENTER

This process will reset all the parameters to factory set levels. You have to adjust the Parential controls and other parameters by yourself later.

My 50 inch plasma pioneer elite has a green color. I dont know how my son changed the color scheme on the tv but i cannot turn it back.

Check in your menu under video and see if there are 3 gamma settings for the Red, Blue and Green. Some plasma's have that feature, why, I don't know, they only cause issues with the consumer. They are listed in the service mode but if I were you I wouldn't go there and besides it's a million to one that your son happened to hit that lottery.

TV keeps shutting off automatically

Since your plasma is less then a year old, I would suggest to contact the manufacturers to get it fix under warranty. If the plasma keeps shutting off by itself, that is not normal and should be repair.
